Dynasty Warriors: Origins immerses players in the journey of the Wanderer, who aims to restore peace across the realm. This adventure is rich with choices that significantly influence the narrative, while also featuring a dynamic combat system with a cast of companions who accompany you into battle.
Your companions enhance the gameplay experience, providing additional power and tactical advantages in combat. In many instances, taking control of these allies can prove more effective than relying solely on the Wanderer. Below, you will find detailed instructions on how to switch characters during battles.
How to Switch Characters in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Character switching can only occur when you are accompanied by other characters during battle. Prior to engaging in a conflict, you will find an option at the war council that allows you to select your companion. While you’re welcome to explore the option to fight solo, note that switching to a companion is not available until the battle commences.
As the fight unfolds, you will notice your companion’s health bar displayed in the lower right corner of your screen, just above your own. Below that, a blue bar similar to your Musou bar will appear. This blue bar accumulates energy as you engage in various combat actions, including:
- Parrying attacks
- Executing perfect dodges
- Defeating enemy officers
- Utilizing weapon arts
Note that nearly all combat maneuvers contribute to filling this blue bar, although they may do so at a reduced pace.
Once the blue bar for your companion is completely filled, the “Change Character”prompt will appear adjacent to the bar. To perform the switch, simply press and hold the designated button for about one second: the View Button on Xbox, C on PC, or the Touchpad on PlayStation.
Playing as Other Characters in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Switching to a companion character is recommended during intense battles, as they possess remarkable power. However, do keep in mind that your control over them is limited to approximately one minute. The previously accumulated blue bar will gradually deplete, signaling the time remaining for your control over the character.
Your newly selected character enters the battle with full Bravery and a set of effective combat arts to utilize right away. Upon switching, they will also unleash a powerful attack, so aim for an enemy as you make the transition. Additionally, each companion boasts their own Musou and health bars, which will start filled, allowing for the activation of their unique special attacks to devastate enemy forces.
