How to start ominous trial in Minecraft trial chambers
A significant update for Minecraft 1.21 introduced a major overhaul of bad omen and its related systems. This includes a new, eye-catching icon and a change to how the effect is obtained. Instead of automatically receiving the effect after defeating raid captains, players can now acquire ominous bottles as consumables. These bottles, found in raid captains and trial chamber vaults, apply the bad omen effect at a level equivalent to the bottle’s level.
These steps are detailed below and involve utilizing both this effect and a new variant of it in order to access an optional, more challenging version of the trial chamber experience.
Embarking on a Sinister Journey in Minecraft
1) Locate a Trial Chamber
To embark on an ominous trial, the initial task is to locate a trial chamber. Despite the seemingly counterintuitive nature of this step, it is crucial to do so as the ominous event is time-sensitive. Fortunately, a map leading directly to a trial chamber can now be obtained from a cartographer villager in Minecraft, simplifying this process.
Despite the potential time-saving benefits that come with using one of Minecraft’s best seeds, finding a village or a zombie villager to cure and trade with is still a matter of luck and may require a significant amount of time. These seeds are known for having villages near spawn, but this does not guarantee an easy find.
2) Obtain the bad omen effect
As previously stated, Minecraft 1.21 introduces a significant change to the way bad omen operates. This revamp ensures that the effect can only be triggered by player-controlled consumables, eliminating the possibility of accidental raids that could disrupt Minecraft trading halls or trigger ominous trials and potentially harm the player.
Uncommon Minecraft vault block rewards known as ominous bottles can also be discovered inside trial chambers. This indicates that if you are fortunate, the initial vault you raid may yield an ominous bottle, intensifying the ominous atmosphere for the remainder of the trial. Consequently, the spawned mobs will be more formidable, but the overall loot, from both spawners and vaults, will be of higher quality.
3) Access a Trial Chamber
To ensure the status effect has been applied, check for the presence of the status icon. If the effect has been acquired normally, entering a trial chamber and approaching a trial spawner with bad omen will automatically change it to a trial omen. This is a different form of bad omen that initiates the start of ominous trials.
This results in all trial spawners that detect you transforming into menacing trial spawners. As previously stated, enemies spawned from these versions are more lethal and may appear with gear. Furthermore, they emit a blue glow instead of orange, symbolizing their burning soul fire. They also have a tendency to discharge random projectiles, such as lingering potions of the latest 1.21 potion types.
Even trial spawners on their 30-minute cooldown may reactivate and summon new ominous mobs immediately when converted, so be careful.
4) Acquire sinister treasures
The added difficulty of these ominous spawners is justified by their superior loot compared to the regular variants. The most valuable item among this new loot is the ominous key, which is specifically designed to unlock the new ominous variant of vault block found in these trial chamber variants.
Like trial spawners, ominous vaults also boast superior loot compared to regular vaults and can be recognized by the presence of soul fire inside. This top-quality loot includes enchanted golden apples, ominous bottles ranging from level III to V, flow banner patterns and trims, wind burst, density, breach mace enchantments, and heavy cores.
The final item is essential for crafting Minecraft’s latest mace weapon, requiring completion of ominous trials before wielding this incredible new weapon and testing out its unique enchantments.
