In Diablo 4, you’ll be picking up a lot of items. Many of those items aren’t worth equipping, but before you sell them off to your closest merchant, consider salvaging them. Salvaging an item will allow you to Transmog your equipment as well as enhance it.
How to Salvage Items in Diablo 4

As you kill the endless waves of enemies that haunt the wood, tunnels, and dungeons of Diablo 4, you’ll soon find yourself absolutely swamped with items. Not all items are worth keeping, but before you throw them on the ground as junk or sell them to your nearest shopkeeper, take note of whether they have a pickaxe icon on them.
If they do, that means they can be salvaged. Salvaging has two primary functions. The first is that it allows you to Transmog your equipment into the appearance of a Salvaged piece of armor at your wardrobe. The second is that salvaging grants materials which can then be used to upgrade equipment that you actually want to keep.
But how do you actually go about doing that? The first step is to be level 10. Many features in Diablo 4 are locked behind either progress, item obtainment, or levels, and such is the case for salvaging. Once you get to level 10, head to your nearest blacksmith.
In the blacksmith menu, you’ll see the red pickaxe icon. By selecting this, you can choose which items in your inventory you want to salvage. But if you preemptively sort through your inventory and mark items as “junk,” you can quickly salvage all those marked items at once.
Once you do so, you’ll get salvage materials like rawhide, leather, and ore.
