In Monster Hunter Wilds, if you’re aiming to create that stylish new armor set you’ve had your eye on at the Smithy, you’ll need to gather a variety of materials, including the essential Herbivore Shell. Fortunately, the game allows you to collect most of the components from the bodies of the monsters you hunt. However, acquiring Herbivore Shell can be tricky since it is sourced from smaller creatures that often go unnoticed during your quests.
Locating Herbivore Shell in Monster Hunter Wilds
Herbivore Shell is primarily obtained from Low Rank Ceratonoth, a Small Monster found in the Windward Plains zone. This area is rich with opportunities to encounter these creatures.

To find Ceratonoth, access your Windward Plains map and look for small, pink diamond icons indicating the presence of Small Monsters. Move your cursor over these icons until you identify a group of Ceratonoth. From there, mark the location as your Waypoint and let your Seikret guide you to them.
Once you arrive, it’s time to hunt. Ceratonoth will attempt to flee as you approach, so you’ll want to act swiftly to take them down. Luckily, these herbivores are relatively weak and do not offer much resistance. It’s also important to note that both male and female Ceratonoths yield Herbivore Shells, so you can hunt either gender.
However, be aware that the Herbivore Shell can only be obtained from Low Rank Ceratonoth, and the odds involve only a 70% chance of carving one from their remains, as indicated in the Small Monster Field Guide. This means you may find yourself acquiring more Herbivore Carapace and Raw Meat before successfully obtaining the coveted Herbivore Shell. Thus, a bit of patience is advised!
