How to Locate a Gravid Bowfin in Monster Hunter Wilds

In the expansive post-game of Monster Hunter Wilds, players can engage in a variety of side missions, many of which revolve around completing fetch quests. These quests typically involve hunting down specific Endemic Life, Aquatic Life, or materials from monsters, all of which help players earn valuable rewards and boost their Hunter Rank experience.

One intriguing quest comes from Kanya, a character often seen fishing near Scarlet Forest’s Base Camp. After successfully bringing her a Goldenfish, Kanya will ask for a Gravid Bowfin. This particular fish is not overly challenging to locate once you know its habitat. Here’s a guide on how to find the Gravid Bowfin in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Locating the Gravid Bowfin in Monster Hunter Wilds

Your adventure to catch the Gravid Bowfin begins in the Plains biome. This is the same desert area where you initially battled the Chutacabra. In the center of this region lies a pond that serves as the perfect fishing spot. This is also where you can establish the Oasis Pop-Up Camp.

If you find yourself disoriented while navigating the map, simply head to Area 13 within the Plains; the pond is situated right in the middle of this area!

Upon arriving at the desert pond, it’s essential to equip your fishing rod and start fishing promptly. This location can be perilous, as monsters are likely to roam nearby, posing a threat to both you and your Pop-Up Camp.

The Gravid Bowfin is distinguishable by its red-orange coloration and is notably smaller than the more common Sushifish, making identification straightforward. Keep in mind, however, that the Gravid Bowfin does not spawn in the pond consistently. You may need to rest at your Pop-Up Camp until it appears.

To expedite your fishing experience, you can catch other fish to clear the area, or utilize your Capture Net for quick grabs. However, refrain from using your Capture Net on the Gravid Bowfin, as this method will not count for the mission; you must catch it using your Fishing Rod.

When it comes to lures, the Gravid Bowfin seems to favor the Emerald Jitterbug. Personally, I found evening hours to be the best time to catch them, especially when I varied the movement of my lure.
