How did Jamahal Hill rupture his Achilles? All about the injury ‘Sweet Dreams’ suffered

Jamahal Hill’s upcoming bout against Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira in the main event of UFC 300 has placed him firmly in the spotlight. As a result, there has been a heightened interest in his career, with many delving deep into his past fights and accomplishments.

Hill was formerly the holder of the light heavyweight championship title, which will be up for grabs at UFC 300. However, he was unable to defend it due to a ruptured Achilles tendon, resulting in him relinquishing the title. This injury has kept ‘Sweet Dreams’ sidelined for over a year, as his last fight was in January 2023, when he defeated Glover Teixeira to claim the 205-pound title.

Despite the lack of knowledge among many, it should be noted that Hill’s Achilles was ruptured while playing basketball, as he himself has stated.

Jamahal Hill released a statement on his official YouTube channel through a video, where he provided an update on his injury and his proposed recovery plan, stating:

“So, quick update on everything going on. As y’all know, I ruptured my Achilles (UFC 290) fight week playing basketball. I’ve been playing basketball my entire life, it’s a workout that I enjoy, I use for cardio and to cut weight and things like that. Yeah, I been doing it forever, it’s just one of those things and it just happened, and it is what it is. A ruptured Achilles can happen in a number of ways, and it just happened to happen this way.”

During the lead-up to UFC 300, Jamahal Hill has consistently emphasized his belief that there is a bias towards ‘Poatan’ among fans and others in the MMA community. He also feels that his own abilities are being underestimated.

In a recent X (formerly Twitter) post, ‘Sweet Dreams’ reiterated their belief and pointed out the hypocrisy of Alex Pereira’s fans.

His words were:

“POTARDS: Glover training Alex is a huge advantage!!! Also Potards: What could Hill learn from Izzy about fighting Alex!! Bro you can’t make this up”

In light of fans’ negative reactions to the news of Hill seeking advice on defeating Pereira from Israel Adesanya, a longtime rival of the Brazilian fighter, this response was given.
