The return of a character from the off-screen series Agatha All Along could play a pivotal role in addressing an often-overlooked superpower within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that has lingered in obscurity for a decade. The narrative of Agatha All Along unfolds through the lens of Scarlet Witch’s son, Billy Maximoff, also known as Wiccan, as well as the formidable Agatha Harkness. While fans await a possible second season of WandaVision, this series provides much-needed MCU magic on television and lays the groundwork for significant future events in the franchise.
The concluding episodes of Agatha All Along adeptly tied up various story arcs while simultaneously hinting at upcoming plots. Notably, Billy Maximoff uncovered his full magical potential as Wiccan, confronting Death as the ultimate test along the Witches’ Road. Despite the death of Agatha Harkness in episode 9, she makes a surprising comeback as a ghost shortly afterward. Through her guidance, Billy Maximoff not only makes peace with his past but also accomplishes a remarkable feat that had seemed beyond his reach.

Tommy Maximoff’s Rebirth May Position Him as Quicksilver’s Speedster Successor

In the climactic finale of Agatha All Along, Billy successfully discovers the essence of his twin brother, guiding it into the decaying form of a teenager with Agatha Harkness’s assistance. This moment mirrors Billy’s own reincarnation, indicating a potential return for Tommy Maximoff, likely resurrecting in the body of Tommy Shepherd per comic lore. Just as Billy evolves into Wiccan, Tommy is destined to transform into the speedster hero known as Speed upon his revival.
When Tommy Maximoff re-emerges in the MCU, his super-speed abilities position him as the first Earth-based speedster superhero since Quicksilver’s introduction in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Aaron Taylor-Johnson portrayed Quicksilver, but his character was killed shortly after debuting. Evan Peters offered a different take on Quicksilver in WandaVision, only to be revealed as the fake Ralph Bohner, who borrowed temporary super speed from Wanda and Agatha. Beyond Quicksilver, the appearance of speed-themed characters has been limited, with Lauren Ridloff’s Makkari playing a minor role in Eternals and Jay Klaitz’s Whizzer meeting an untimely end in Jessica Jones.

Tommy Maximoff Could Become the Sole Active Live-Action Speedster Hero

With the groundwork laid, Speed could emerge as a leading hero, aligning perfectly with the anticipated Young Avengers project in the MCU. Additionally, the conclusion of Fox’s X-Men franchise means there are currently no alternative versions of Quicksilver in play. Following the debacles surrounding The CW’s The Flash series and the DCEU film of the same name, the DC Universe’s Flash introduction may take longer than expected. Given that Eternals 2 appears unlikely, Makkari’s return is also not imminent. Therefore, Speed stands to be the singular live-action speedster superhero to shine prominently in the aftermath of Agatha All Along, positioning him favorably within the MCU landscape.
