Introducing Hopetown: The Spiritual Successor to Disco Elysium
Longdue Games Studio has announced Hopetown, a new role-playing game that serves as a spiritual successor to the acclaimed Disco Elysium, which was released in 2019 by ZA/UM Studios. Recognized for its innovative mechanics and compelling narrative, Disco Elysium redefined the detective RPG genre, garnering multiple awards, including four Game Awards and a BAFTA. With the immense success of Disco Elysium, many fans speculated about a sequel, only to be met with internal conflict and legal issues at ZA/UM, resulting in the rise of numerous off-shoot studios. Now, Longdue emerges with an exciting new project.
Hopetown is set to launch a crowdfunding campaign soon, allowing fans to engage in its development process. This RPG takes place in a mining town rich with intrigue, featuring a rogue journalist determined to uncover hidden truths and unearth buried secrets. Players will navigate complex social interactions, using their investigative prowess to mold their final articles. The decisions made will not only influence the narrative but also alter the world itself. Fans are encouraged to visit Longdue’s website for upcoming details.
Expanding Upon Disco Elysium’s Foundations
Innovative Systems & Psychogeography

In a similar vein to Disco Elysium’s narrative depth, which unfolded through the eyes of amnesiac detective Harry DuBois, Hopetown features a journalist at the center of its tale. As players navigate the complex dynamics in the mining community, they must carefully consider their dialogue and storytelling approach. Whether they pursue sensationalism, conspiracy, or objective journalism will significantly impact their narrative trajectory.
An exciting new psychogeography system will be implemented, allowing players to explore the environment through their character’s thoughts and emotions. This feature enhances puzzle-solving mechanics, fostering a more immersive experience where player choices resonate on both personal and community levels.
Longdue has also enlisted the expertise of former contributors from Disco Elysium, including Piotr Sobolewski. Sobolewski comments on his involvement, stating, “Having led a team credited with ‘saving’ Disco Elysium and contributing for nearly six years, I’m thrilled to partner with Longdue to create a vibrant RPG that fans will love.”Additional collaborators will be announced during the crowdfunding phase.
Notably, Disco Elysium’s writer Robert Kurvitz and art director Aleksander Rostov have confirmed they are not involved with Longdue’s project.
