Recent leaks have revealed a new ability for Mydei, a forthcoming character in Honkai: Star Rail 3.1. While much of his gameplay kit appears intriguing, one leaked feature could disappoint many players. Mydei, also known as Mydeimos, is set to be introduced alongside Tribbie in this upcoming update, though both characters are still awaiting their debut as Version 3.0 is yet to be launched. This forthcoming version will also introduce several Amphoreus characters as non-playable characters (NPCs), coinciding with the Astral Express crew’s journey to new realms.

In Version 3.0, players will welcome one new playable character, Aglaea. Subsequent to this, both Mydei and Tribbie are expected to be released in Version 3.1. There remains some uncertainty about whether they will initially appear as NPCs during the earlier version or if their first appearances will coincide with the 3.1 release. Nevertheless, some details have emerged regarding Mydei: he is a 5-star Imaginary character on the Path of Destruction, purportedly designed to serve as both a formidable DPS and tank in team compositions. However, a potential issue arises from his gameplay mechanics.

According to claims made by a leaker known as Shiroha on Reddit, Mydei’s Skill and Enhanced Skill will function without consuming skill points. However, a concerning aspect of this potential mechanism is the introduction of an auto-targeting feature, which may dictate which enemy Mydei attacks automatically. This combat mechanic has been likened to automatic gameplay but remains unclear in its specific implementation. The leak hints that while players might retain the ability to opt for Mydei’s Basic Attack, the forthcoming auto-targeting system could constrain their strategic choices.

If the auto-target system proves true, its operational specifics remain ambiguous. The game could require Mydei to focus on either the strongest or weakest enemy on the battlefield, potentially impacting battle strategies significantly. While not consuming Skill Points is a clear advantage—allowing teammates to conserve their resources—the mandatory auto-targeting could undermine players’ tactical options.

For context, Boothill, another character in Honkai: Star Rail, utilizes an auto-targeting system when engaged in the Standoff state. However, players can choose which enemy Boothill focuses on, contrasting with Mydei’s potential automatic targeting.

Clarity regarding Mydei’s combat capabilities remains elusive. If players are not allowed to direct Mydei’s attacks but must rely on the game’s targeting decisions, it could severely impact overall strategies. For instance, if Mydei inadvertently targets a formidable opponent instead of opting to eliminate smaller, easier enemies first, players might find themselves overwhelmed by waves of adversaries.

During encounters against bosses that summon minions—such as Phantylia or the Great Septimus—Mydei’s inability to choose his targets may hinder the team’s ability to manage threats effectively. This could be particularly challenging for team compositions that rely on quick-support characters to debuff opponents. If these supports act before Mydei, coordinating attacks could become a guessing game, where players might apply debuffs on one enemy only for Mydei to target another.

Alternatively, should the auto-targeting feature prove too limiting, adjustments may lead to a requirement for Mydei to consume Skill Points while executing his Skills. As the beta approaches, significant changes could be expected, coinciding with the release of Version 3.0.

For now, it’s prudent to approach these leaks cautiously. Details may be inaccurate or incomplete as they surface ahead of the Version 3.1 beta tests.
