Hollow Knight: Silksong Guide to Obtaining the Faydown Cloak

Hollow Knight: Silksong Guide to Obtaining the Faydown Cloak

The Monarch Wings are notably absent during the early and midgame phases of Hollow Knight: Silksong, and players often find themselves yearning for the ability to double jump. The lack of this mobility can be frustrating, particularly as you encounter various overhead obstacles on your journey.

Fortunately, players can obtain the Faydown Cloak almost immediately after acquiring the Clawline. If you haven’t yet done so, it would be wise to pause your exploration and tackle that task first, as without it, Mount Fay will become inaccessible.

Before embarking on this ascent, ensure you have progressed sufficiently through The Slab to unlock free access to the Bellway station there. This is the only route to Mount Fay, where the coveted Faydown Cloak awaits.

In this guide, I’ll provide you with detailed instructions on navigating Mount Fay’s treacherous paths and employing effective dash techniques. It’s advisable to utilize Weavelight during this segment for an enhanced grappling experience, making your climb smoother.

The Foothill

Upon exiting the station, you will immediately feel the frigid environment affecting your health. The cold here mimics a harsh Minnesota winter, so be mindful to seek warmth within 30 seconds or risk freezing.

Begin your journey by grappling onto the rings as you leap from the first ledge, maintaining an unbroken momentum to the left. If you miscalculate your timing near a room transition, quickly run inside to reset your cold timer.

Upon crossing the gap, continue into the cave where Shakra resides. While the area’s layout isn’t too complex, it’s beneficial to acquire a map if you have some rosaries to spare. Rest at the nearby bench to recover before resuming your ascent.

Leap across the icy lake, which will damage you instantly if you touch its surface, and proceed onto the floating platforms as you climb. Look out for metallic lamps in the ceiling, which provide much-needed warmth during your journey.

100 Meters

As you move right, clasp the floating platform, ascend, and jump across the crumbling blocks. Speed is key here, so avoid any hesitation. Next, grapple to the left platform, jump and grapple an enemy, and then transition to the wall.

Swiftly climb the next wall, execute wall jumps, and grapple onto the wall that leads you to a safe zone. Time your wall jumps carefully to avoid spikes, navigate through the perilous spike tunnel, and slide down to safety on the left wall.

Utilize your dash to travel up the wall without leaping off, grappling enemies along the way to reach the wall on your left. From here, leap and dash to another safe spot. You’ve arrived in a room filled with warmth and silk—take a moment to catch your breath.

Crystalline Drop

In a rather surprising twist, your next action will be to descend carefully. First, consider camping at the ledge to hit the metallic bug for an infinite silk supply, useful if you’ve taken prior damage. When ready, make your descent.

Take your time with the drop, but dropping your glide slightly will expedite the fall. Stick to the left of the crystal, and enter the first opening to remain safe.

Within this tunnel, you’ll encounter more silk and warmth, as well as a hostile creature you need to defeat. Proceed to the tunnel’s end and break the wall on your left leading to another icy lake.

Here, you must grapple across enemies that shatter into spikes upon defeat. With the silk you’ve gathered, you can continually grapple and glide to land safely on a stable rock.

If you’re struggling, consider grappling any nearby enemy, as they may lead you to a wall, ring, or other platforms to remain safe. The second and third enemies in this sequence, particularly, can guide you to a warmth-providing wall.

Continue to cross the icy lake by grappling persistently, maintaining height by utilizing enemies and rings along your route. Eventually, you’ll reach a cozy room with a bench accessible by navigating a hidden passage found by breaking a wall to the left, descending down and to the right.

Before moving back up, feel free to farm silk from the nearby enemy if you need additional resources, particularly if the bench is out of reach. A mask shard is also available here for later retrieval.

Rebound Up

As you continue your climb, keep in mind this warm refuge, and begin bouncing up the surrounding walls. When atop the lift, jump and grapple an enemy, pulling back slightly to land safely on the upper lift. Mastering this maneuver will be crucial.

This is where Weavelight is particularly useful, as you can nearly always regenerate a silk bar before needing another grapple. Engage each enemy in your climb, and soon, you’ll be at a wall greeted by a warm light.

Dash up the walls carefully to steer clear of spikes, and when at the top, leap off, glide, and grapple just in time to reach another wall and descend lightly. After hitting several enemies, finally reach a resting ledge to your right, completing this challenging sequence.

Prepare for another fall once you slip into the cave. This descent requires a quicker approach, so don’t hesitate to activate your cloak for safety. As you fall, latch onto the wall on your left immediately.

Once safe, grapple onto a trio of floating enemies, jump off the wall, and strike another enemy to maintain your speed. The last enemy can be tricky; grapple it quickly and pivot to hook onto the left wall, though gliding down slowly can help you readjust.

Ice Cold Soup

On Fay Mountain, at the top of the Big Pit in Silksong.

As you embark on the next section, you’ll find yourself grappling above water again, but this time, the ceiling is much lower. Utilize the enemy to your advantage, knocking down the crystal-connected block to create a pathway, then retreat left for safety.

From the block, grapple another enemy and glide into a tunnel where you can replenish your silk. Be cautious in the upcoming area; falling into the next room will thrust you back to the initial drop and erase considerable progress. Instead, head to the right.

Clear the blockade to unlock a shortcut for any missteps, and prepare for another round of grappling. Hit the enemy, turn around to collect the ring, and follow this sequence tightly until you’re able to ascend through the hole in the ceiling.

Reach for the Summit

Once you’re surrounded by the mold spore-like snow at the summit, you’re nearing the end. Open up the left wall for a warm spot and bench, readying yourself for the final stretch. Leap the wall, grab the hoop, jump off, and strike the enemy before returning to the wall.

Don’t fall victim to the snowy slope; it has a tendency to send you tumbling downwards. Instead, use the next hoop to vault yourself over to the left wall, where a warm lamp awaits. Glide and grapple across the spikes, and swiftly navigate the crumbling platforms that could hinder your altitude.

Time is of the essence as your freeze timer will be nearing its end. Dash past the silk flowers, grapple an enemy, and sprint left to reach the wall gracefully. This leads to another round of grapples and wall clings, testing the skills you’ve honed throughout your journey.

Take a quick breather in the following room, then jump out and start gliding when wind direction favors your ascent. If executed correctly, you should be able to ride the current upwards, veer right, and finally secure the Faydown Cloak, granting you the abilities of double jump and immunity from the cold. Enjoy your descent down the mountain!
