Hollow Knight: Silksong Guide to Defeating Coral Tower and Crust King Khann

Hollow Knight: Silksong Guide to Defeating Coral Tower and Crust King Khann

Have you inadvertently brought about an apocalyptic scenario in Hollow Knight: Silksong? Surely, it’s not your fault, right? Absolutely not!

What awaits you is a challenging four-stage arena battle culminating in a boss confrontation. Although this may seem daunting, with dedication and strategy, you can conquer the Coral Tower and defeat its formidable King.

Preparation for Battle

Crests

Hollow Knight Silksong Wanderer Binding

Every player has unique preferences regarding Crests, Skills, and Tools. However, some options can significantly aid your journey.

Personally, I favor the Crest of the Wanderer due to its fast attack speed. While it does come with a shorter reach, combining it with the longclaw tool can effectively counter that drawback.

If you lean towards the classic Hunter’s Crest, ensure you enhance it by conversing with Eva in Weavenest Atla, who can upgrade it twice based on your usage of Memory Lockets.

Silk Skills

Hollow Knight Silksong Coral Sharpdart

I recommend utilizing the Sharpdart skill in conjunction with the Volt Filament tool sourced from the Voltnest in the Sands of Karak. This combination excels against groups of airborne enemies, allowing your electrically charged Sharpdart to penetrate them and inflict significant damage, especially when engaging on spike-laden floors.

Tools

Hollow Knight Silksong Poison Cogfly

For those favoring red tools, Cogflies are an excellent choice. They excel at targeting flying enemies that can be difficult to reach, allowing you to concentrate on dodging. The Wispfire Lantern is also quite beneficial here.

Consider equipping the Pollip Pouch to extend the efficiency of your tools. A key advantage of memory fights is that you won’t need to re-craft your tools frequently. So, go ahead and utilize those Cogflies liberally!

Ultimately, these strategies worked well for me, but feel free to adapt based on your playstyle. Just ensure you have fully upgraded your needle before embarking on the triple heart gauntlet.

Navigating the Coral Tower

First Room

Refer to the video above for a complete run-through of the Coral Tower.

To commence your journey, play the Elegy of the Deep at Khann’s body located at the center of the Coral Tower. This will transport you into a realm of memories.

Ascend through the stunning blue depths of the tower until you reach the first room.

This initial stage features predominantly practice-oriented enemies with no significant threats. Focus on familiarizing yourself with the attack patterns of basic foes and dodging projectiles from flying adversaries, as you’ll encounter plenty of these later.

Hollow Knight Silksong Coral Slash

Enemies such as Conchflies, which you may have faced before, are present along with smaller fish foes. Given the absence of damaging environmental hazards like spikes, reserve your tools for critical moments, allowing you to conserve resources.

You can even use the enemy-spawning spikes to dispatch unengaged foes.

Second Room

This stage ramps up the intensity, introducing more formidable challenges. Pay attention to the following threats:

  • Driznarga
  • Karak Gor
  • Ground Spikes

The Driznarga fire conchcutters at you, though they pose less of a danger than the spikes cluttering the ground. Utilize your clawline or deploy Cogflies to deflect projectile assaults.Maintain composure, and remember to pace yourself.

The Karak Gor are larger foes that cause spikes to emerge from the ground. Bouncing on their heads is an effective strategy to defeat them, but be wary of their crouched leap attacks.

Fighting amidst the ubiquitous spikes can be challenging and may limit your mobility. Mastering aerial combat is crucial for gaining an advantage.

Take full advantage of Jellyfish enemies to replenish your health whenever possible.

Third Room

This stage presents an intriguing dynamic. Ground spikes remain a primary obstacle, but they can also serve as your ally. Attempt to propel the main Karaka enemies into the spikes for an immediate takedown. Key challenges include:

  • Corkrust Karaka
  • Combating without a solid floor
  • Double Jellyfish

The Corrcrust adversaries shoot out yellow bubbles. Utilize Longclaw to navigate effectively, as they are less inclined to target you directly, allowing for sustained, incremental damage.Sharpdart also proves beneficial here.

In a particular segment, the ground will be engulfed by spikes entirely, necessitating wall climbing for attacks. The Ascendant’s Grip tool is invaluable for preventing sliding down. Beware of the smaller fish enemies; they can be bothersome while maneuvering on the walls.

After completing this room, you’ll have the opportunity to break a stalactite, opening a shortcut to bypass future encounters in these stages!

The Ultimate Challenge

Fourth Room

Hollow Knight Silksong Fourth Coral Room

Before proceeding, consider intentionally dying to take a breather and replenish your supplies—unless you’re feeling exceptionally brave.

This final chamber integrates enemies from the previous rooms, yet curiously, it is less challenging due to the smaller platform size, allowing you to shove adversaries onto the spikes. Additionally, the waves are shorter in duration, making this segment easier than the third room, as a final boss awaits.

After defeating the last wave of enemies, utilize your silk soar to ascend one final time and confront the ultimate foe.

Confronting Crust King Khann

At last, you can relax a bit, as strangely, this portion of the Coral Tower is the least challenging. Crust King Khann’s attacks have long wind-ups, allowing ample time for dodging.

Moreover, he doesn’t deal direct damage; his primary tactic involves attempting to surprise you with long coral spears. Once you comprehend his movements, you will have ample opportunities to retaliate.

Such design choices are understandable—having just endured a grueling four-room ordeal, it would be quite unfair to face an excessively difficult boss. Let’s review his attack patterns:

Attack Name Description How to Avoid
Coral Slash Khann thrusts forward, launching a spear of Coral. He may also leap and strike diagonally. Jump to the top to launch an overhead attack or dash behind him. If uncertain, cling to the wall.
Uppercut He raises an arm, propelling coral upward from the ground. Jump and dash over him for easy hits.
X-Scissor Khann crosses his arms, forming a Coral X shape around him. Dodge backwards, or if bold, slip through the middle for quick strikes. Excessive attacking may result in being pushed back and taking damage.
Coral Burst The boss bellows, causing coral to sprout from the floor and ceiling. Look for the tremors and dodge accordingly.
Stalactites Similar to Coral Burst, but coral will drop from above. Watch for safe gaps where coral won’t fall.

Master the space around you, and you’ll overcome this boss with ease. Upon victory, you will acquire the heart and bid farewell to Coral Tower for good!
