Hollow Knight: Silksong Guide – How to Acquire the Cling Grip Ability

Acquiring the Cling Grip in Hollow Knight: Silksong

In the highly anticipated sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, fans will notice the absence of the original’s Mantis Claw. This upgrade previously allowed players to cling to walls and perform wall jumps. However, the wall jump mechanic is revived under a new name: the Cling Grip.

To unlock the Cling Grip, players must first navigate through the Far Fields and gain the ability to ride updrafts before entering Greymoor. It’s advisable to complete the Flea Caravan quest beforehand, as engaging a Moorwing without preparation can lead to a challenging combat scenario.

Entering Shellwood

Hornet Jumping Across Platforms in Silksong

Once inside Shellwood, you’ll encounter floating platforms above water. Navigate carefully to find a chain-suspended platform paired with a door leading further into the area. Although it might seem impossible to ascend at first, you can dash and skillfully time your jump to latch onto a ledge on your right, allowing vertical progression.

Prepare for more climbing—use your floating cloak liberally, dash where appropriate, and utilize enemy bounces to maintain momentum. Your goal is to reach the exit located at the upper left. After traversing past the purple flowers and defeating more enemies, you’ll find the exit to the top right door.

The Bench Room

Upon entering this new space, you will notice a bench sign above a ledge that’s currently unreachable. Don’t fret; drop down, dispatch any enemies, and shift left. You’ll have the opportunity to ascend several platforms and purchase bench access, which is highly recommended for strategic gameplay.

Step on the pressure pad to summon an elevator, then head east across the lake. You’ll need to navigate a series of chained platforms before swerving back to the west. This section poses a slight challenge as you must carefully time your dives through clusters of white flowers growing above a spike pit.

The key to overcoming this area is to activate your float ability consistently to maintain control while aiming for the designated flower targets. While the first few flowers present minimal challenges, you should gear up for an impending boss encounter to the west.

Confronting Sister Splinter

Prepared with the right strategy, the battle against Sister Splinter can be managed with relative ease. She employs a stabbing attack sequence, striking three times and alternating direction with each stab. Evade her strikes by dashing from side to side and counterattack after the third stab.

Throughout the fight, watch for thorny vines from above and additional minions; however, deploying an array of projectiles and traps can provide significant advantages.

Defeating Sister Splinter is crucial as she guards access to the Cling Grip. If you encounter challenges, consider revisiting previous areas to collect extra masks, expand your tool slots, or acquire new tools for assistance.

With Sister Splinter defeated, you will gain access to the upper left section of Shellwood. Exercise caution as falling from this height will require a lengthy detour to return to your previous position.

Obtaining the Cling Grip

As you traverse the precarious top platforms, ensure that each jump is calculated. Utilize the right stick to survey below when uncertain about landing spots. This approach will aid in navigating through the initial area effectively.

While dealing with flowers that snap at you, consider using projectiles like Sting Shards for efficient damage. Once you’ve ascended and avoided potential traps, you’ll soon find yourself at a lake, where navigating across should be straightforward.

The area beyond the lake poses its own set of challenges; patience will be paramount as you proceed. Remember to float after each jump for added control. As you approach the top right door, you will discover a Weaver symbol, which grants you the coveted Cling Grip upon binding.
