This side quest is intricately tied to the character of Shakra, renowned for providing players with maps throughout their adventures. For those eager to delve into Shakra’s backstory, embarking on the Trail’s End quest is the most immersive way to unravel her narrative.
How to Initiate the Trail’s End Quest
To kick off the Trail’s End quest in Hollow Knight: Silksong, players must acquire all the maps offered by Shakra. It’s important to note that while Shakra provides many maps, he does not cover every area in the game. Therefore, you only need the specific maps he sells to unlock the quest.
The areas for which Shakra sells maps include:
- Moss Grotto
- Deep Docks
- Bone Bottom
- The Marrow
- Hunter’s March
- Greymoor
- Far Fields
- Bellhart
- Sinner’s Road
- Blasted Steps
- Bilewater
- Mount Fay
- Sands of Karak
- Shellwood
- Wormways
Once you’ve obtained the pertinent maps, look for the Trail’s End quest on the Wish Board in Bellhart.
Locating Shakra in the Trail’s End Quest
The main goal of the Trail’s End quest is to find Shakra, who can be located in the challenging area known as Bilewater. This terrain is environmentally hazardous due to poisonous waters, adversely affecting your ability to use Silk.
If you haven’t yet explored Bilewater, remember that it is an optional level. You can gain access to it by traversing through either Sinner’s Road or Whispering Vaults. Upon entering Bilewater, you should head towards the northeastern section to find Shakra, as depicted in the image below.
As you navigate through Bilewater, you will encounter traces left by Shakra, allowing you to form a scent track that will guide you to her precise location. Upon arrival, you will find Shakra standing beside a long-lost friend, sadly no longer alive. Interact with Shakra to exhaust her dialogue, after which she will depart, concluding the Trail’s End quest.
Rewards for Completing the Trail’s End Quest
The completion of the Trail’s End quest grants players the coveted Throwing Ring, a unique combat tool designed for blunt force attacks. It proficiently bounces between foes and hard surfaces, making it especially effective in crowded spaces filled with enemies.
Additionally, Shakra will lend her support in confronting the notoriously difficult High Halls enemy gauntlet. Players will face a daunting challenge consisting of 11 waves of enemies and three mini-boss encounters. However, with Shakra appearing in wave 2 after completing the Trail’s End quest, this segment becomes significantly more manageable. Her presence was instrumental in enabling me to conquer this tough part of the game, highlighting the immense value of the rewards derived from this quest.
