In the enchanting world of Hollow Knight: Silksong, the Silk Heart is an item that you will encounter early on, yet it often slips from players’ memories as they progress. This seemingly small object plays a crucial role, enabling you to regenerate silk over time. Understanding how to collect these valuable items is essential for enhancing your gameplay experience.
Throughout your journey, you can acquire two Silk Hearts simply by advancing through the main storyline. However, the third Silk Heart is cleverly hidden and requires you to confront an optional boss in a rather obscure corner of the Citadel. In this guide, I’ll provide you with the necessary steps to secure every Silk Heart, ensuring that you won’t run out of silk at critical moments and can aim for a 100% completion of the game.
Silk Heart #1

The first Silk Heart you will obtain is from the Bell Beast located in the Marrow. After acquiring the Silkspear skill from Mosshome, you will be ready to tackle this challenging boss. Upon defeating the Bell Beast, navigate through a short platforming segment and collect your first Silk Heart in the form of a shiny golden orb, which signifies your ability to regenerate 1 silk per heart. This effect is particularly useful for utilizing abilities such as the Harpoon.
Silk Heart #2

The second Silk Heart is earned by defeating Lace in the Cradle after you have collected three melodies and accessed the lift in the Cogwork Dancers chamber. Lace presents a more formidable challenge than the Bell Beast; however, if you have adequately upgraded your nails, you should encounter less difficulty in the battle. Pay particular attention to her deflective moves, and once she is defeated, complete another brief platforming challenge to claim your second Silk Heart.
Silk Heart #3
Surgeon’s Key

The third Silk Heart may be the most elusive. You will first need to acquire the Surgeon’s Key. To do this, navigate to the long horizontal room with the three Morticians—enemies that charge at you with scissors. Advance to the far right side of the room and jump up to the next level. Instead of heading left or right, jump into the shaft of light and pass through to the left side. There, destroy the debris blocking the entrance to the next chamber. Use your Clawline Harpoon to retrieve the ring hanging down, which will release a corpse holding the Surgeon’s Key.
The Unravelled – Phase 1

Return to the other long corridor in the southwest section of Whiteward, left of the main elevator, to find the circular slot for the Surgeon’s Key. Insert the key, and proceed down into the pit to start the boss fight. Initially, you’ll have to defeat a few enemies, absorbing their attack patterns will prepare you for the battle ahead. Following their defeat, the Unravelled will take the stage, escalating the intensity of the encounter.
Although optional, equipping the faydown cloak can significantly assist you during this battle as you will be navigating a lot. Below is a breakdown of the Unravelled’s attacks and strategies to evade them:
Attack |
Description |
How To Avoid |
---|---|---|
Silk Charge |
The Unravelled charges from either side of the arena. |
Jump over it to dodge, then strike when it passes. |
Corpse Shot |
Fires two corpses at you, one high and one low. |
Dodge the high shot and jump over the low shot. |
The Unravelled – Phase 2

As the battle progresses into its second phase, expect increased chaos. The Unravelled summons additional airborne enemies that relentlessly pursue you. Tackle them by attacking them from below or by jumping over them for a rear assault. After dealing with these distractions, be prepared for the new attack mechanism, where spears shoot up from the ground, indicated by a silk plume. Although these spears fall slowly, they can complicate your movements while the Unravelled is airborne.
Utilize ground-based attacks to exploit the Unravelled’s vulnerability during this phase, especially with tools like the Pollip Pouch to amplify your damage output. Notably, the Corpse Shot attack will now produce three bodies instead of two, requiring you to adapt your dodging strategy. Here’s an overview of the new attack:
Attack |
Description |
How To Avoid |
---|---|---|
Spear Summoning |
The Unravelled summons spears from both sides, converging at the center. |
Hit the Unravelled then dash to the sides to avoid being trapped. |
Conclude the fight by eliminating additional spawns and repeating the aforementioned strategies until victory. After triumphing, navigate the memory platforming segment to claim your final Silk Heart.
Weavelight

Additionally, by acquiring the Weavelight item, you can effectively gain a pseudo fourth Silk Heart. This powerful blue tool, found in Weavenest Atla after defeating the Dual Moss Mothers, increases the rate at which your silk regenerates, allowing you to maintain a fourth piece of silk. This enhancement ensures that you can continuously utilize your silk skills even if you’re unable to successfully land an attack.
