Help Konami Decide: Which Metal Gear Solid Game Should Be Remade Next?

A recent survey posted on X (formerly Twitter) by the user Metal Gear Network, and highlighted by Insider-Gaming, reveals that Konami is seeking fan input on which Metal Gear Solid title should receive a remake next, following the launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

This survey, which is conducted entirely in Japanese, poses a challenge for those who do not speak the language or lack translation tools. Despite the language barrier, the primary objective is clear: Konami is actively engaging with the fanbase to determine their preferences for future remakes.

The survey presents several options for fans to choose from, including:

  • Metal Gear
  • Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
  • Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
  • Other (with an option to specify)

In addition to gauging preferences for future remakes, Konami has plans for the upcoming release of MGS: Master Collection Vol.2, which is anticipated to feature MGS4, MGS: Peace Walker, and MGSV. However, it’s essential to note that these will not be full-fledged remakes but rather enhancements that allow fans to experience the series on modern gaming systems. This raises an interesting discussion about the accessibility of MGS4, which remains confined to the PlayStation 3.

In terms of performance, the newly released MGSD: Snake Eater remake has seen a remarkable start, selling over 1 million copies within the first day, as reported by Konami.

Given the success in sales and favorable critical responses, it seems logical for Konami to pursue another project in the series. While both MGS2: Sons of Liberty and MGS3: Snake Eater are revered among fans, the latter poses the highest stakes due to its beloved status within the fan community.

By tackling the challenging remake of Silent Hill 2 first, Konami has demonstrated its capability to revive classic titles effectively. Remaining fans will undoubtedly have elevated expectations for subsequent projects, yet there is newfound confidence in Konami’s direction for the series.

As a fan, which Metal Gear Solid game would you choose for the next remake? Personally, my preference isn’t for another remake but instead lies in being able to easily play MGS4 without needing my aging PS3.
