This past Friday, October 24, 2024, Hell’s Kitchen season 23 delivered a significant milestone by airing its 350th episode. However, for one contestant, the episode proved to be particularly challenging.
Egypt, who has faced the elimination challenge twice consecutively, voiced his desire to leave the competition. Having clashed with fellow Blue Team members, he opened up about his difficult upbringing.
As the Dinner service loomed, Egypt confided in Chef Ramsay about his readiness to exit, but Ramsay managed to persuade him to stay, expressing his belief in Egypt’s potential.
Viewers of Hell’s Kitchen were quick to express their opinions online regarding Egypt’s contemplation of leaving. One user commented on X:
“
Egypt appears to have let the pressures of the competition overwhelm him. He’s gone from being one of the strongest contenders to showing signs of giving up completely.
“It’s good to see Egypt is staying. There should be an agreement preventing anyone from quitting unless it’s for medical or mental health reasons, not just homesickness,”a viewer stated.
“We need contestants who are committed to the show. If Egypt wishes to leave, then perhaps it’s best to say goodbye,”a user tweeted.
Many fans expressed sympathy for Egypt amidst his struggle:
“It’s tough watching Egypt feel this way. He’s genuinely invested in the competition and performing well! The others just need to check their egos!”one individual wrote.
“Egypt, please don’t quit! You’re one of the best contestants! Even Chef Ramsay should reassure you of that,”a fan commented.
“The scrutiny Egypt faces is a result of racial bias! It seems that confident and skilled Black contestants are often portrayed as ‘arrogant’ or ‘aggressive.’ I was dismayed after seeing how they treated Summer last season,”one tweet expressed.
Further comments from the audience included:
“It’s sad to hear Egypt feel as if Chef Ramsay only sees him as a character in a drama rather than a deserving contestant. If too many start quitting, this season could run out of episodes,”one user remarked.
“Chef Ramsay prefers Egypt to not leave this way; it disrupts the show’s flow. He wants to have the chance to eliminate him on camera properly next week,”another fan noted.
“You’ve got a bullseye on your back”— Anthony advises Egypt on Hell’s Kitchen season 23 episode 5
In the fifth episode titled “Homesick in Hell,”Egypt shared a touching moment with Anthony and Whit, revealing his background of poverty and shelter living, expressing his desire for a better future for his children.
“You need to navigate the game carefully. Make connections. You’ve got a target on your back,”Anthony warned.
The following day, the contestants participated in a burger-making challenge where, out of seven proteins, one Blue Team member had to volunteer to cook twice. Egypt and Magali both achieved a tie, emerging victoriously.
Back at the house, Egypt confided in Joe about missing his daughter. Joe reminded him that most competitors were childless and couldn’t fully empathize with their situation.
Before the dinner service got underway, Egypt made it clear to Gordon Ramsay that he was considering quitting. Ramsay took him aside to have a private chat, emphasizing his belief in Egypt’s ability.
“I see potential in you that others overlook. Concentrate on yourself and your family. I still have faith in you, so trust in your own abilities. Don’t throw in the towel,”Gordon Ramsay encouraged.
Reactions to this part of the episode flooded social media, with many criticizing Egypt’s inclination to leave the reality series.
Fans can catch weekly episodes of Hell’s Kitchen season 23 every Thursday at 8 PM ET on Fox.
