Helldivers 2 Announces Crossover with Killzone
This week, Arrowhead Game Studios, the team behind Helldivers 2, revealed its inaugural partnership with another intellectual property (IP). The exciting news involves a crossover promotion with Sony’s Guerrilla Games, featuring a new armor set, weaponry, and items inspired by the iconic Killzone series, all available through the game’s Superstore.
Community Reaction and Pricing Controversy
While a segment of players welcomed this aesthetic addition, the $20 price tag for these crossover items sparked significant backlash within the gaming community. Given that Helldivers 2 is priced at $40 under normal circumstances, players expressed concern regarding the game’s monetization strategy.
Adjustments Following Community Feedback
In response to the widespread dissatisfaction regarding both the pricing and the limited availability of items in the Superstore, Arrowhead took swift action. The studio has announced that the second week of Killzone promotional content will now be available to all players at no cost, with immediate access.
“As this was our first crossover offering, we’ve been listening to the response, and the feedback we’ve received from our community surveys is that crossover content is really high up on your wishlists,”stated Arrowhead in an update post.
“At the same time, some of you are not happy with the prices of the items and we will revisit this.”
What’s Included in the Free Offerings?
The complimentary items distributed to players include the aforementioned AC-2 armor set, the PLAS-39 rifle, and the StA-11 SMG weapons, along with a themed cape and banner. These additions reflect the game’s commitment to entertaining its community while addressing their concerns.
Store Changes and Future Outlook
While the initial wave of crossover items remains available for purchase on PlayStation 5 and PC, Arrowhead is extending the Superstore’s item rotation period from five days to ten. The studio has also indicated that it is actively exploring options to make these crossover items a permanent fixture in the future.
As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, it remains uncertain how this community backlash and the subsequent pricing revisions will influence potential future collaborations between Arrowhead and Sony.
