Helldivers 2 Guide: How to Obtain the FRV

Introducing the FRV, a formidable vehicle that ensures you can not only outrun but also overpower your adversaries. This robust ride has ample seating for your entire squad and boasts a mounted heavy machine gun turret, adding a thrilling layer to your cooperative destruction experience.

Differentiating itself from vehicles in other gaming environments, the FRV features a manual transmission system, requiring players to master gear shifting, even when reversing. This complexity adds a unique twist to your gameplay, taking you out of the realm of simple controls.

Once you familiarize yourself with the controls, you’ll find yourself effortlessly gunning down enemies while drifting through the vibrant streets of Super Earth’s cities.

How to Acquire the FRV

You can secure the FRV in the Hangar section of the Stratagems, where it can be acquired for 25,000 Requisition Slips. As with any stratagem, you can select it pre-mission while in your Hellpod, allowing you to call it in once you’ve touched down on a new planet.

Additionally, keep an eye out for the FRV as it can also be discovered scattered around the map, particularly near mission objectives.

Using the FRV Effectively

As a PS5 player, I’ll reference the DualSense controller for this guide. The FRV can achieve speeds up to 100 km/h. With a capacity for 60 liters of fuel, it’s likely to take substantial damage before running out of gas.

Here are some key controller bindings to help you navigate the FRV:

  • Accelerate: R2
  • Brake: L2
  • Shift Gears: R1, L1
  • Enter/Exit: Cross or Circle
  • Honk Horn: L3

Notably, the FRV incorporates a realistic gear shifting mechanism, offering a refreshing departure from typical video game vehicle controls. Users can change gears by tapping L1 or R1, and should approach driving like a real vehicle.

Aside from the Drive (D) and Reverse (R) gears, players won’t need to focus much on the other gears unless experimenting. To maximize control, it’s advisable to gently accelerate rather than hammering down the pedal.

If you’re not behind the wheel, you have the option to sit in one of two passenger seats or take control of the heavy machine gun attached to the back. While seated in a passenger position, your Helldiver can shoot, but this action exposes them to enemy fire, including friendly fire.

The mounted machine gun provides a generous supply of ammunition, with five magazines available before you need to rearm. However, aiming down sights is not an option with this setup.

Be cautious, as reckless driving can lead to crashes that may cause injuries to you or your teammates. The FRV, while armored adequately, can be obliterated by explosions, and tire damage will severely impair its handling, so proceed with vigilance!
