This expansion represents the largest addition to Hearthstone’s card catalog, featuring 49 unique cards that include class cards, multi-class StarCraft faction cards, and one neutral Legendary card. The Mini-Set strengthens the ties between Hearthstone and the beloved StarCraft universe.
The announcement followed the Warcraft Direct event held on November 13, 2024, where Heroes of StarCraft was first mentioned. This Mini-Set is part of The Great Dark Beyond expansion, serving as a notable crossover with StarCraft, Blizzard’s renowned but underappreciated real-time strategy (RTS) franchise. Initial glimpses into the expansion provided basic information, with deeper insights anticipated in the new year.
Fast forward two months, Hearthstone has revealed comprehensive details about the Mini-Set. Heroes of StarCraft will include 49 brand-new cards, which is 11 more than previous Mini-Sets, ensuring a diverse gameplay experience. Each class will be equipped with three unique cards, while each of the three StarCraft factions brings five cards to the table. Players can look forward to a fascinating mix of strategies as they incorporate these new cards into their decks, especially with the inclusion of a Legendary card for each faction and a neutral Legendary known as Grunty.
Release Date for Hearthstone Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set
- Release Date: January 21
The newly revealed Zerg cards are tailored for the Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Hunter, and Warlock classes, featuring mechanics that emphasize summoning Zerglings and utilizing the Hydralisk to inflict damage based on swarm size. In contrast, Protoss cards designed for Druid, Mage, Priest, and Rogue classes focus on mana efficiency, allowing players to deploy expensive units like the Carrier more readily. The Paladin, Shaman, and Warrior classes will benefit from the inclusion of the Starship mechanic, enhancing gameplay with new Starship Pieces and strategies to launch multiple Starships, including a unique Starship featuring the Mech creature type.
However, the extensive nature of the Heroes of StarCraft Mini-Set comes with a corresponding price increase. While players can obtain these new cards through The Great Dark Beyond packs, a full playset will cost $20 or 2500 gold—representing a $5 and 500 gold increase compared to standard Mini-Sets. For players seeking a Golden version, the total rises to $80 or 12,000 gold, compared to the usual $70 and 10,000 gold. Additionally, players can selectively purchase faction-specific packs for $10 or 1200 gold each.
To celebrate the arrival of this Mini-Set, Hearthstone is hosting two special streamed events: StarCast and HearthCraft. StarCast is scheduled for January 23 at 10 AM PST and will feature well-known StarCraft players TrumpSC and Day9 showcasing the new cards. Following that, HearthCraft will occur on January 24 at 9 AM PST featuring various community creators competing in matches and mini-games, each representing different factions. Participants in these events will have the chance to earn four free packs (two normal and two Golden packs) of The Great Dark Beyond, making it an unmissable opportunity for fans of the game.
