Healing Techniques and Strategies to Acquire More Medikits in Hyper Light Breaker

The healing mechanic in Hyper Light Breaker is not immediately clear, making it a source of confusion for many players. As is common in the roguelite genre, the game encourages players to explore and discover its intricacies on their own. However, the challenge of learning how to heal—which is vital for survival—can be particularly daunting when starting without any Medikits. This article will clarify how to effectively heal and what new players should be aware of as they venture into the game.

Understanding Healing in Hyper Light Breaker

New players must grasp several fundamental mechanics in Hyper Light Breaker. Concepts like parrying, the accumulation of Bright Blood, and upgrades become apparent with gameplay experience. Nevertheless, the healing process remains one of the most crucial yet opaque aspects, and recognizing how to navigate it is essential.

Healing Methods in the Overgrowth

In the Overgrowth, players can discover multiple ways to regain health even before acquiring Medikits. Given the relentless nature of enemy encounters, having effective healing strategies is paramount to survive. Here’s what players should focus on:

  1. Collecting Health from Flowers and Items: Flowers scattered throughout the Overgrowth can provide health.
  2. Utilizing Medikits: If you have Medikits, they are an effective way to recover a significant amount of health.
  3. Defeating Enemies: Some enemies may drop health orbs upon defeat.
  4. Boss Defeats: Taking down a prism boss yields a core that helps restore health.
  5. Using Special Items: Items like Holobytes can grant you healing capabilities when specific conditions are met.

While the initial list may appear extensive, many healing sources only offer a modest HP recovery. For example, Flowers typically restore 5 HP. Consequently, players might need to gather a considerable number of them for a complete health recovery. Thankfully, procedurally generated maps usually present at least three to locate in each area.

Additional in-game items, such as specific canisters, may provide health but are not always reliable. Moreover, health drops from defeated enemies manifest as orbs filled with green liquid, also granting around 5 HP. A more substantial health replenishment comes from defeating prism bosses. While this may not fully restore health, it can significantly bolster your HP.

Importantly, once a prism boss is defeated, you must collect the dropped core to receive your health benefit. Timing is essential here to avoid being overwhelmed by other enemies during this phase.

Lastly, various Holobytes and gear types enable healing through specific in-game actions, with Perfect Parries often triggering health recovery. Certain armor amps can restore lost HP if damage is dealt immediately after sustaining it. However, the most effective healing remains through Medikits, which are not always easy to maintain in your inventory.

Acquiring and Refilling Medikits

To effectively utilize Medikits, players must first upgrade their skill tree with a Golden Ration to enable the equipment of a Medikit. Initially, players have access to zero Medikits, but an upgrade down the tree allows for carrying a second one—arguably an essential upgrade in Hyper Light Breaker.

Once the upgrade is unlocked, there are two primary avenues for acquiring Medikits. First, players must gather Medigems, which are critical creations that do not carry over between Cycles. It’s essential to note that leftover Medigems from one Cycle will not be available in the next.

Players can also discover Medikits behind locked areas in the Overgrowth, needing a Key to unlock these areas and costing Bright Blood to access. During initial runs, players typically receive a prompt at the beginning to convert Medigems into Medikits automatically. After entering the Overgrowth, any Shrine can be approached to execute this transaction, though the cost differs from the opening run.

Medigems are typically acquired when interacting with Flowers, so players should consistently collect what they find. Although some enemies might drop Medigems, this occurrence can be infrequent and appears to have a degree of unpredictability. Players have noted that Medigems might drop from enemy types that shield other foes.

To use a Medikit, simply follow the prompt near your Medikit icon—it’s the up arrow on the D-pad for controller users. Each Medikit generally restores 75 HP, bringing you very close to full health, making it an invaluable tool for maintaining your character’s viability in Hyper Light Breaker.
