In connection with his arrest, Lil Durk faces accusations of orchestrating a murder-for-hire against rapper Quando Rondo, who was targeted on August 19, 2022. Reports state that Quando Rondo and his cousin Lul Pab were shot at while in a black Cadillac Escalade at a gas station, with Lul Pab tragically losing his life, while Rondo emerged safe.
According to Billboard, the charges against Lil Durk specify:
“Banks [Lil Durk] placed a monetary bounty on an individual named T.B [Rondo]. Banks ordered T.B.’s murder, and the hitmen utilized finances associated with Banks and OTF to carry out the act.”
Federal authorities allege that the violent act was partly in retaliation for the death of OTF member King Von, who was killed in 2020 amid an alleged gang confrontation in Atlanta.
Legal Insights from Celebrity Attorney Bradford Cohen on Lil Durk’s Case
Celebrity attorney Bradford M. Cohen discussed the legal proceedings involving Lil Durk and his associates during an October 29 podcast episode on the Law & Crime Sidebar with Jesse Weber.
Cohen indicated that unlike some of his associates, who have extensive evidence against them, including flight tickets and video footage, there appears to be insufficient evidence implicating Lil Durk directly.
“I think that Durk will still have a defense…. I think there are some missing pieces regarding how involved he was in this alleged conspiracy. The other guys, they have plane tickets, a car, and video evidence. That’s a tough position for their legal teams,”he stated.
However, he mentioned having come across a text where Lil Durk allegedly instructed someone not to associate him with “any kind of flights.”While he deemed the text unfavorable, he emphasized that the evidence remains circumstantial.
Moreover, Cohen elaborated on how federal authorities can gather evidence:
“There are numerous ways today to collect evidence against individuals involved in these crimes—be it cell phone records or GPS information. They often cross-reference phones to see which ones were together at relevant times, as well as vehicle rental agreements and surveillance footage,”he explained.
He went on to highlight how often the feds manage to acquire evidence from unlikely sources, stating:
“Surprisingly, they manage to get footage from red light cameras or from neighbors, while my attempts to obtain beneficial footage for my clients get thwarted.”
Lil Durk was first presented in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida on October 25, just a day post-arrest. He remains in federal custody, with an arraignment anticipated in the near future.
