“He packed the [superman] cape”: Darvin Ham doesn’t mince words for LeBron James’ 40-point heroic performance
At the age of 39, LeBron James, the superstar of LA Lakers, continues to solidify his claim that nobody has performed at his age as brilliantly as he has.
Despite facing the Brooklyn Nets on the road, the Lakers’ head coach Darvin Ham praised the experienced veteran for his exceptional performance in single-handedly leading the team to a 116-104 victory on Sunday.
“I told him in the huddle before his last stretch… I’m extremely thankful that he packed the [superman] cape for the road trip… We needed all nine of those threes.”
The Lakers’ win pushed their current six-game road stretch to a 3-1 record, with upcoming back-to-back games against the Toronto Raptors and Washington Wizards on Tuesday and Wednesday to conclude the stretch.
The Lakers are currently in ninth place in the Western Conference standings with only seven games remaining in the regular season. They are currently one and a half games behind the seventh-place Phoenix Suns.
Duo of Legends: LeBron James and Michael Jordan Achieve Rare Historic Feat
In Sunday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets, LeBron James scored 40 points and helped lead the Lakers to a 116-104 victory. This impressive performance has earned him a spot alongside Michael Jordan in a special NBA record.
James has now become just the second player in the history of the league to achieve multiple games of 40 points or more after reaching the age of 39. This impressive accomplishment has been achieved twice by James, while Jordan, who played until the age of 40, managed to reach this milestone three times.
LeBron James leads Lakers to victory over Nets with 40-point game
The veteran 20-time All-Star demonstrated his skill by shooting an outstanding 13-for-17 from the field and matching his personal record for 3-pointers made, successfully sinking 9 out of 10 attempts from beyond the arc.
Despite not giving up any easy shots to James, Brooklyn, the Lakers’ standout managed to find his rhythm and make nearly every attempt he took from beyond the arc.
In a display of his clutch abilities, James delivered an outstanding performance in the last quarter, scoring 17 points on 5-for-6 shooting. He was especially impressive from beyond the arc, going a perfect 4-for-4 and ultimately securing the victory for his team.
This sudden increase occurred at a crucial moment, as the Nets reduced L.A.’s previously dominant 26-point advantage to only eight with 11:42 remaining in the game.
During the previous season, James faced difficulties with his 3-point shooting, as he was only able to achieve a 32.1% success rate from beyond the arc.
The experienced forward cited an injury he suffered in February as the reason for his decline in performance. He revealed that he tore a tendon in his right foot, which affected his ability to focus on perfecting his shooting technique during practices and breaks between games.
As the fourth quarter neared its end and the outcome of the game was all but certain, LeBron left the court and the away crowd rose to their feet, giving him a standing ovation.
Filled with appreciation for their unwavering support, James mimicked the gesture of placing a crown on his head as a way of acknowledging the admiration from the spectators.
