“He claimed ‘self defense’”: Angie Harmon says Instacart driver allegedly shot her dog Oliver

On Monday, March 1, 2024, Angie Harmon, known for her role in the TV series Rizzoli & Isles, announced the passing of her dog, Oliver, a German shepherd/beagle mix. She revealed on Instagram that her beloved pet was tragically killed in an unfortunate incident involving an Instacart delivery on February 30. Along with sharing photos and videos of her furry friend, Harmon addressed the incident in the post’s caption.

“This Easter weekend a man delivering groceries for Instacart shot and killed our precious Oliver. He got out of his car, delivered the food & THEN shot our dog,”she wrote in the post’s caption.

Delving further into the incident, Angie Harmon claimed that the deliveryman was aware that he was not being recorded as he had noticed their ring camera being charged inside the house.

“Our ring camera was charging in the house, which he saw & then knew he wasn’t being recorded. The police let him go b/c he claimed “self defense”. He did not have a scratch or bite on him nor were his pants torn. He was shopping under a woman’s identity named Merle…the pic is on my story.”

The actress takes care of a few more animals, including two other dogs and a cat.

Angie Harmon stated in her Instagram post on March 1 that she was at home with her daughters when the incident occurred. She further mentioned that the deliveryman repeatedly uttered the following words:

“Yeah, I shot your dog. Yeah I did.”

In her Instagram story, she shared a screenshot of her Instacart page, displaying the delivery confirmation and the deliveryman’s ID. Angie argued that the ID was fake. She then re-shared her initial post regarding the shooting, including a message directed towards the accused deliveryman, stating,

“To the man who took Ollie away from us: your actions are despicable and inexcusable. You’ve not only robbed us of a beloved member of our family but you’ve also traumatized us beyond measure. The fact that someone could commit such a heartless act is beyond comprehension to me and I’m devastated that I didn’t get to say goodbye to him.”

An official from Instacart, in a statement given to PEOPLE, stated that they are currently in communication with Angie and are working together with authorities in their investigation.

“We are deeply saddened and disturbed to hear about this incident. We have no tolerance for violence of any kind, and the shopper account was immediately suspended from our platform.”

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Affairs informed PEOPLE of the ongoing Police Department investigation. According to the officers, the driver stated that the dog had attacked him while he was at the residence. In self-defense, he fired a single gunshot which fatally injured the dog.

The driver also stated that there was another dog at the residence, and it did not attack. According to PEOPLE, the driver has not faced any criminal charges, and the CMPD is not looking for any other individuals involved.

The Beloved Pets of Angie Harmon: Oliver’s Story

According to her Instagram feed, Angie Harmon is a passionate animal enthusiast who has taken in numerous animals as her own. Her feed is filled with numerous photos showcasing her two dogs, a cat, a duck, and several horses.

Angie Harmon shared with PEOPLE that her family has a new addition – a baby squirrel. Her youngest daughter discovered the tiny animal on the sidewalk and, after searching for its mother to no avail, the actress decided to adopt him. He is now known as Thomas in their household.

She took to Instagram to share photos and videos of Thomas, confessing that she had gone without sleep for two straight weeks. The actress went on to reveal that her beloved dog Oliver used to nudge her to feed Thomas whenever he was hungry. As a pup, Oliver would bark to wake her up and remind her to attend to the little squirrel.
