Based on George R.R. Martin’s novellas, Tales of Dunk and Egg, this new series serves as a prequel to Game of Thrones and a sequel to House of the Dragon, exploring the exciting events that unfold between the two series. Release Window for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
During a recent tech and media conference, Warner Bros. Discovery’s global streaming chief, JB Perrette, shared updates on multiple 2025 streaming releases, including A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Perrette announced a target of a “late 2025 launch,” with Variety reporting that this is likely to occur during the fourth quarter (October to December). HBO has also disclosed the airing windows for other highly anticipated series:
- The White Lotus Season 3: February 2025
- The Last of Us Season 2: Spring 2025
- A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Late 2025
Filming for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms commenced in June 2024 in Ireland, concluding in September. The series will adopt a smaller scale than prior productions from the Game of Thrones franchise, consisting of only six episodes. In addition to Prince Aegon, the storyline will explore other members of the Targaryen lineage, such as Aegon’s brothers, Prince Aerion and Prince Daeron, as well as their father, Maekar Targaryen, and Prince Baelor, who serves as heir and Hand of the King.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is merely one of the numerous spin-offs in development within the Game of Thrones universe. While some projects, like Naomi Watts’ prequel Bloodmoon, were halted despite filming a pilot, HBO is continuing to invest in the Targaryen legacy. This includes a series that chronicles King Aegon’s conquest of Westeros. Furthermore, House of the Dragon is set to return for additional seasons, with filming expected to start in 2025. Martin has indicated that he has abundant ideas for more spin-offs, including an unaired project centered on Arya Stark.
Fans can look forward to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is scheduled for release on HBO in late 2025.
