“Haters will collapse if Iga Swiatek & Jannik Sinner rule, “boring” personalities will drive them nuts”: Fans react to Italian’s quip in Miami presser

The moderator at the 2024 Miami Open press conference was playfully trolled by Jannik Sinner, resulting in uproarious responses from tennis enthusiasts.

Sinner has just secured his second Masters 1000 title by winning the Miami Open, defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the final with a commanding score of 6-3, 6-1. This triumph not only marks the 22-year-old’s second Masters 1000 title, but also propelled him to the top spot in the world rankings, surpassing Carlos Alcaraz and reaching a career-high ranking of World No. 2.

At the post-match press conference, the moderator accidentally inquired the Italian player if he believed winning the Miami Open was more significant than achieving the top ranking in the world.

“What is more important for you, your first title in Miami after two finals or being No. 1 in the rankings tomorrow?”the moderator asked.

Jannik Sinner quickly sought clarification on the incorrect mention of him becoming the top-ranked player in the world, prompting the moderator to rectify his error.

“No, No. 1?”Sinner questioned.

“No. 2, sorry,”the moderator replied.

The Italian then humorously remarked on the moderator’s “unforced error,”causing the journalists in the room to burst into laughter.

“Unforced error,”he said.

On social media, a fan shared a clip of a humorous back-and-forth and jokingly mocked the claims that Jannik Sinner lacks a sense of humor and charisma.

“Boring, unfunny, no personality, no charisma etc,”the fan posted.

Despite facing similar criticism for her personality, Iga Swiatek continues to prove her worth on the tour. One fan humorously pointed out that if both Swiatek and Sinner were to dominate the tour, it would surely irk the naysayers who claim their personalities are “boring.”

“The way I know the haters will collapse if Iga and Jannik rule the tour cause their “boring”personalities will drive them NUTS,”the fan commented.

“Need him and Iga to rule tennis with iron fists,”another fan chimed in.

Likewise, a fan compared the Italian to F1 driver Max Verstappen, emphasizing the difference between their fierce on-track personas and their off-track personalities.

“I’m absolutely fascinated when an athlete’s competitive personality is worlds apart from their real personas. Like Max Verstappen, and here Jannik Sinner. A complete and absolute beast on the court, but a total, unrelenting pookie off-court,”the fan wrote.

After winning the Miami Open, Jannik Sinner will begin his claycourt season at the Monte-Carlo Masters, which starts on April 7. The Italian will be among top players such as Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and possibly even Rafael Nadal at the Masters 1000 tournament.

Last year, Sinner advanced to the semifinals of the Monte-Carlo Masters but was defeated by Holger Rune in a three-set match. This year, the 22-year-old has his sights set on winning his third Masters 1000 title and fourth overall title of the season at the upcoming event.

Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek is set to compete at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, where she will defend her title as the two-time champion in the WTA 500 event. She will join a highly talented roster of players, including last year’s runner-up Aryna Sabalenka, World No. 3 Coco Gauff, and World No. 4 Elena Rybakina.
