After an intense bidding war, Amazon has secured the rights to Crime 101, and Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry is currently in negotiations to portray the female lead, acting alongside Chris Hemsworth.
This upcoming movie will closely adapt the storyline of the original short story, which unfolds along the scenic Pacific Coast.
Halle Berry Cast in Amazon MGM Studios’ Crime 101
Renowned African American actress Halle Berry is set to join the cast of Amazon’s crime thriller, portraying the female lead opposite Chris Hemsworth, who will take on the role of the male lead.
With a prolific acting career, Halle Berry made history in 2002 by becoming the first and only African American woman to win the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Monster’s Ball.
In addition to her acting accolades, Berry has starred in and produced projects such as Introducing Dorothy Dandridge for HBO, which earned her both an Emmy and a Golden Globe. She also gained a Globe nomination for her role in Frankie and Alice.
Berry’s impressive filmography includes notable titles like Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, Boomerang, X-Men, Die Another Day, The Call, and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. More recently, she starred in Netflix’s The Union.
Moreover, Halle Berry produced the Lionsgate thriller Never Let Go under her production company, HalleHolly, and she is preparing to work on Maude Vs. Maude and The Process.

Based on the book, Crime 101 revolves around a sequence of high-profile jewelry heists that have perplexed law enforcement for years, taking place along the Pacific Coast Highway. The thief adheres to a strict code of operation he refers to as “Crime 101.”
While police investigations have pointed towards Colombian cartels for the thefts, Detective Lou Lubesnick suspects that a single mastermind is behind it all. As the jewel thief seeks a coveted final score, Lou breaks the rules of Crime 101 to uncover the identity of the elusive criminal.
Chris Hemsworth will also serve as a producer alongside his partner, Ben Grayson. In support of Hemsworth and Berry, Barry Keoghan and Mark Ruffalo will have prominent roles in the film.
Filming for the Amazon thriller is set to commence in two weeks, with a theatrical release expected next year.
