Hades 2 Guide: Tips for Defeating Scylla

Hades 2 Guide: Tips for Defeating Scylla

Scylla, one of the most notorious mythical creatures in Greek lore, wreaks havoc on the seas by devouring countless sailors. In the game Hades 2, this fearsome beast stands as a formidable challenge for players, seeking to hinder Melinoe from reaching Chronos alongside her accomplices, the sirens Roxy and Jetty.

As the guardian of Oceanus, the game’s second area, Scylla’s battle mechanics mirror those of the Hecate encounter with one key distinction: she does not face you alone. This cooperative dynamic among the three adversaries elevates the complexity of the encounter and ensures that players must adapt their strategies accordingly.

The unique playstyles of Scylla and her sirens create a multi-layered combat experience—one moment, players must evade Roxy’s Casts, while the next, they are dodging Jetty’s aggressive dash attacks amidst Scylla’s barrage of projectiles. It’s a relentless dance of avoidance and counterattack, so perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to pray to Poseidon for assistance, even if Oceanus isn’t directly in his kingdom. This guide will outline effective strategies for defeating Scylla in Hades 2.

Preparation Strategies for the Scylla Encounter

Hades 2: Scylla Fighting Preparations

Given the diverse attack patterns Scylla and her sirens utilize, selecting the right Boons for your Cast and Special is crucial prior to engagement. Roxy, being stationary, offers a prime opportunity to target her with concentrated attacks.

Utilizing a potent Special attack will further enhance your damage output, especially when wielding weapons like the Witch’s Staff or the Sister Blades. Consider the following Boons for optimal effectiveness:

  • Aphrodite’s Rapture Ring for your Cast, which induces weak status and draws enemies inward.
  • Apollo’s Prominence Flare, enhancing your Omega Cast to create a barrage in the subsequent seconds.
  • Demeter’s Ice Flourish for your Special, adding freeze effects and boosting damage outputs.
  • Hestia’s Flame Flourish for inflicting scorch damage, further bolstering your ranged capabilities.

Strategies for Defeating Scylla in Hades 2

How to Defeat Scylla in Hades 2

To achieve victory over Scylla, prioritize eliminating Roxy and Jetty before turning your attention to Scylla. All three share a combined health bar, and as the fight unfolds, their attack patterns will evolve.

In the initial phase, allocate time to understand their moves and dodge techniques, as these mechanics carry forward to the subsequent phases for two of the enemies.

Throughout the second phase, remain vigilant since one band member will receive a power surge, significantly enhancing their attack patterns. This can make the encounter much more challenging.

Lastly, in the third phase, while Scylla’s tactics become less complex, she summons hordes of Pinheads—fish-like creatures that, though easy to dispatch individually, can quickly accumulate to drain your health if you’re not cautious.

Scylla Phase 1 Attacks

Scylla Phase 1 Attacks
Enemy Attack Description Action
Scylla Quad Beam Attack Fires four beams in a plus formation, spinning counter-clockwise. Use long-distance attacks or dash between the beams.
Scylla Spiked Projectile Spread Shot Retreats into her shell and launches several spiked projectiles. Sprint away or dodge to avoid damage.
Scylla Shriek Attack Glows red and screeches, following Melinoe while casting a red blade spell. Use ranged attacks while maintaining distance.
Scylla Mic Swing Swings her microphone when players get too close. Dodge before contact.
Scylla Homing Musical Note Launches red homing musical notes that follow you. Dodge or sprint to evade.
Roxy Waves of Casts Creates waves of red Casts that either approach or retreat. Evade the attack circle before it implodes.
Jetty Charged Dash Charges and lunges at you. Dash or sprint away.
Jetty Bubble Blast Fires bubbles that push you away. Avoid the bubbles to stay grounded.
Jetty Throwing Red Balls Throws bouncing balls that can change direction. Dodge left or right to miss the balls.

My personal strategy is to tackle Roxy first, as she is a stationary target and thus easier to eliminate. Keep moving actively to avoid being cornered by Jetty and Scylla while wailing on Roxy with a mix of Casts and standard attacks. Once you drive Roxy and Jetty’s health down, they will enter a defensive stance, allowing you to focus on Scylla.

The battlefield contains two gas canisters at either side; utilizing these can significantly damage Scylla or Jetty if caught. Once all three have taken sufficient damage, the phase transitions with one enemy becoming the “featured artist.”

Scylla Phase 2 Attacks

Scylla Phase 2 Attacks
Enemy Attack Description Action
Scylla Quad Beam with Spiked Projectiles Uses her quad beam attack while shooting spiked projectiles periodically. Dodge between beams and avoid projectiles simultaneously.
Scylla Shriek Attack The red blades now have an expanded range, increasing hit probability. Maintain your distance and utilize ranged strikes.
Scylla Multiple Musical Notes Launches four homing musical notes instead of just one. Dodge swiftly to avoid being hit.
Scylla Area Coverage with Cast Creates a red attack zone affecting significant parts of the arena. Dodge into safe zones outside the designated area.
Roxy Frequent Waves of Casts Roxy unleashes Casts rapidly across the battlefield until defeated. Avoid standing within the damaging circle.
Jetty Charged Dash with Red Rings Creates an expanding red ring during her dash. Dodge the red ring while avoiding her charge.

This phase challenges players to adapt to the enhanced versions of previous attacks. Keep the core strategy: focus on Roxy first, especially when she is the featured artist. Scylla and Jetty can be dealt with after, as needed.

Defeating Roxy and Jetty sends them back to the depths, allowing you to concentrate on Scylla. Once you inflict enough damage, Scylla will retreat into her shell, signaling the beginning of the final phase.

Scylla Phase 3 Attacks

Scylla Phase 3 Attacks
Enemy Attack Description Action
Scylla Summoning Pinheads Continuously spawns Pinhead fish to assist in her fight. Defeat the Pinheads or use a Cast to pin them down while attacking Scylla.

During the final phase, players can take advantage of Scylla’s focus on her Pinhead army. Engage her aggressively while remaining alert to incoming attacks from the minions. A balance of offense against Scylla and defense against the Pinheads will lead to success.

Rewards for Defeating Scylla

Scylla Boss Drops

Successfully defeating Scylla yields valuable rewards:

  • Pearl x1

Each time you triumphed over Scylla, you earn a Pearl, which is a crucial reagent for unlocking the Abyssal Insight incantation. This incantation enables interactions with the Black stone in the training grounds, allowing completion of trials that reward Stardust.

Additionally, it requires a total of 6 Pearls to unlock two Weapon Aspects. Specifically, you’ll need 1 Pearl for Descura’s Aspect of Momos, alongside 2 Limestones, and 5 Pearls along with 1 Obol for Moonstone Axe’s Aspect of Charon.

Through the Vow of Rivals, players can challenge a more powerful iteration of this boss: Scylla and Charybdis. We will provide an in-depth guide for that encounter in the future.
