Recap of Season 26 Episode 5: Mary McAvoy Sings “Say You Love Me”During Blind Auditions

With just one Blind Audition episode remaining, the coaches are becoming more selective in their choices due to limited spots left on their teams. Earning multiple chair turns at this stage is quite an achievement, and Mary McAvoy managed to accomplish just that.

A 35-year-old from Walpole, Massachusetts, Mary was among the eleven contestants advancing from episode 5 after impressing both Michael and Snoop with her voice—both coaches turned their chairs within moments of her performance.

After her performance, Gwen expressed surprise at Mary’s appearance compared to her vocal quality, and mentioned that her chair didn’t turn due to slight tuning issues. Reba acknowledged the commendable decision made by Snoop and Michael to turn for Mary, claiming she would aim to “steal”her later.

Snoop expressed his enthusiasm to work with Mary, stating:

“I’m ready to bet on Mary, I’ll coach her and lend an ear.”

Michael shared Gwen’s observations regarding Mary’s pitch problems yet confidently offered his support for improvement.

The duel for Mary’s choice began as Snoop and Michael urged her to join their teams. Ultimately, Mary chose Team Snoop, as he was the first coach to show interest by turning his chair. This decision made her the second contestant to join Snoop’s team during episode 5, following 17-year-old Eliza Pryor and 32-year-old Deon Jones.
