Haason Reddick sends warning to league ahead of Jets chapter: “Don’t think anybody is ready for what’s about to happen

During the offseason, Haason Reddick’s life took an unexpected turn. In order to create room in their salary cap for the upcoming season, the Philadelphia Eagles traded Reddick to the New York Jets, following their signing of Bryce Huff in free agency. This occurred as Reddick was in the final year of his contract.

Interestingly, Huff joined the market following a successful stint with the Jets, resulting in a technical exchange – where New York’s team gave up a conditional third-round pick to Philadelphia for the transaction. In his first press conference as a new Jets pass rusher, he issued a cautionary message to the rest of the league for the upcoming season:

“I don’t think anybody is ready for what’s about to happen,” Reddick said. “It’s going to be exciting, it’s going to be entertaining. It should’ve already been that way when you look at the defense.”

Despite recording 11 sacks in the previous season, his performance, along with the rest of the Eagles team, declined in the second half of the season. Having achieved double-digit sacks for the franchise in consecutive years and approaching a contract year, it was evident that he would require a significant salary increase. However, with Jalen Hurts also on the roster, Howie Roseman was unable to meet his demands.

In the 2017 NFL Draft, Reddick was selected by the Arizona Cardinals as the 13th overall pick, right before Derek Barnett was chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles as the 14th pick. Despite being touted as a pure linebacker, Reddick faced challenges in this role according to NFL teams.

In his last year of his initial contract with the Cardinals, he transitioned to a full-time pass rusher, resulting in a breakout season with 12.5 sacks. As a free agent in 2021, he signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers and continued to excel, recording 11 sacks.

The Jets decided to release him after his two impressive seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles on a three-year contract worth $45 million. While his first two years were well worth the investment, it was clear that the final year of the deal would not live up to its initial value, leading to the Jets’ decision to cut ties.
