The Golden Bachelorette, a new addition to The Bachelor franchise, debuted on September 18, 2024. This unique series invites individuals in their 50s and 60s to explore love once more. Among its contestants is 66-year-old emergency room physician Guy Gansert, who recently took to Instagram to discuss a personal topic.
Court records acquired by The U.S. Sun reveal that Gansert’s ex-partner, Heidi O’Gara, sought a restraining order against him back in 2021. However, this order was only temporary and was dismissed even before it had the chance to take effect. Reflecting on this resurfaced situation, Gansert shared his thoughts on Instagram on October 10, 2024.
He expressed that the restraining order did not accurately depict his character, describing the end of their 34-year marriage as one of the most challenging times in his life. Gansert elaborated:
“My ex-wife and I shared 34 years of marriage and were blessed with four wonderful children whom we cherish deeply. They are my proudest achievement. The divorce was incredibly tough on me, leading to a low point where I acted in ways that do not reflect my true self.”

Gansert further clarified that the matter with his ex-wife was amicably resolved as she voluntarily chose to dismiss the restraining order. While he refrained from diving into the specifics of their separation, he conveyed his appreciation and affection for his former spouse and the family they raised together. He stated:
“This unfortunate incident transpired during a notably trying time for both me and my ex-wife, and it was resolved peacefully when she voluntarily dismissed her request for a protective order. We reached an agreement that suited both sides.”
In his message, Gansert expressed gratitude to The Golden Bachelorette viewers and Bachelor Nation for their unwavering support. He reflected on the period following his divorce, acknowledging that it prompted him to confront his flaws and aspire toward personal growth. Despite the challenges posed by the separation, Gansert noted that this experience provided insights into evaluating his character and making amends for past mistakes.
Gansert remarked:
“These past few years have compelled me to undertake a profound self-reflection, and I am committed to ongoing self-improvement. I am immensely thankful to The Golden Bachelorette, Bachelor Nation, and my family, who have been incredibly supportive during one of the toughest phases of my life. I am forever grateful for their presence.”
Toward the conclusion of his remarks, Gansert acknowledged the need to take responsibility for his actions in the public arena, emphasizing that he and his ex-wife had hoped to resolve their issues away from the spotlight:
“My ex-wife and I recently petitioned the court to seal her request for a protective order, as we wanted to keep our family’s matters out of the limelight. However, I recognize that being in the public eye comes with its own set of responsibilities.”
