Gunther gives his honest take on whether Cody Rhodes deserves to finish his story at WrestleMania 40
Gunther has provided his opinion on whether Cody Rhodes should conclude his narrative at WWE WrestleMania XL.
In 2022, The American Nightmare made his return to the company with the goal of achieving something his legendary father Dusty Rhodes never could: winning the prestigious WWE Championship. Although the RAW star was unsuccessful in capturing the title at last year’s ‘Mania, he now has another opportunity to make history by facing off against Roman Reigns this Sunday night.
During a recent interview with The Independent, Gunther acknowledged that Cody Rhodes has been putting in hard work but stated that it is not his place to determine if Rhodes deserves to complete the story at WrestleMania 40. He also noted that Roman Reigns has also worked diligently and expressed curiosity about how the situation will unfold.
“Who am I to say who deserves what? Roman is in this position because he worked for it. What does he not deserve? It didn’t fall from the sky, he worked hard and went through a lot of struggles. But so did Cody. That’s the unfair thing of being in this business sometimes. There are a lot of people that deserve things, but very few get it in the end, so we’ll see how it plays out. Most important is that it’ll be exciting for the audience,”said Gunther. [H/T – The Independent]
Gunther Confident in Retaining Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 40
The Ring General’s title will be up for grabs at The Show of Shows, as he defends his Intercontinental Championship against Sami Zayn.
During the interview, Gunther also acknowledged that his rival was a highly popular fan favorite and that they were complete opposites. Despite this, he expressed his determination to retain the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 40.
“Sami is someone who is great at connecting with the audience. How he is as a person really translates well to what he is in the ring. People really like that and I can see why. He and I, we couldn’t be bigger opposites. At the end of the day, that’s all good for him, but I’m focused on still being the Intercontinental Champion after that,”he said.
Gunther will be defending his title as the I.C. Champion at WrestleMania 40 for the second consecutive year. It will be intriguing to see if he can retain his championship for another year, just as he did last year.
