Guide to Locating and Utilizing Ilya’s Key in Atomfall

In the immersive world of Atomfall, players encounter various side characters, some of whom are covert Soviet agents, all intertwined with the mystery of the Windscale disaster. Among these characters is Ilya, whose hidden cache can be located throughout the game’s expansive map — particularly one that is buried in Skethermoor, identifiable by the Metal Detector.

Unlocking Ilya’s Cache: Finding and Using the Key

So, who exactly is Ilya, and where can you find his key? Ilya is located in a cellar beneath the Brinsop Manor Ruins, which is also situated in Skethermoor. To access Ilya, head into the small hedge maze encasing the manor ruins where you will find the entrance to his hiding spot.

Upon meeting Ilya, he will request assistance in gathering crafting supplies to repair a broken radio. You’ll need to collect 10 scrap metal and 4 glue, which can typically be found among the debris surrounding the ruined structures in Skethermoor, should you not already possess these items.

After fulfilling his request, the next step involves progressing through Joyce Tanner’s questline if you haven’t done so yet. This requires restoring power to Data Store Charlie using an Atomic Battery, conversing with Tanner there, and subsequently activating three Radio Towers scattered throughout the map, as directed by her.

Once you have completed the Radio Tower task and return to Tanner, you’ll discover Ilya’s body in the same room with her. Here you can collect items including his rifle and journal, as well as the coveted Ilya’s Key. While the circumstances of Ilya’s demise may raise questions, feel free to inquire with Joyce Tanner to learn more about his fate.

With Ilya’s Key in hand, you are now ready to head back to the cache in Skethermoor. Unlock it to find valuable rewards, including a Nail Bomb, Gunpowder, the Infiltration Report Note, and the Oberon Biology Report dated August 28, 1957.

If you’re looking to expedite the process and have no interest in Ilya’s storyline, you have the option to eliminate him upon your first encounter to obtain the key directly from his corpse.
