RGG Studio has spared no effort in crafting the most exhilarating solo journey for Majima in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza. A significant highlight of this adventure is the incorporation of the unique Dark Instruments, which are crucial to the gameplay.
These Dark Instruments function as formidable summons, reminiscent of RPG classics like Final Fantasy, allowing players to call upon mystical allies in battle for temporary assistance.
There are four distinct Dark Instruments, each paired with its own spiritual companion, each offering varied effects that can be leveraged during combat.
To acquire all four Dark Instruments, players must embark on the Devil Flags storyline. In the sections that follow, I will guide you on how to obtain each instrument and detail the powers of their associated creatures.
Exploring the Effects of Each Dark Instrument

Each Dark Instrument can be activated in battle when using the Sea Dog style and once your madness gauge is full. Below, I have outlined the abilities of each creature linked to the instruments, giving you insight into their unique roles during combat:
- Dark God of the Waves: Summons an army of sharks that strike enemies from beneath the surface. The greater the number of foes, the more sharks that appear.
- Dark God of the Deep: Calls forth a swarm of jellyfish that heal you and your allies while temporarily stunning nearby enemies.
- Dark God of the Earth: Brings forth a colossal ape that delivers devastating damage in a limited area before vanishing.
- Dark God of the Skies: Conjures a parrot that lifts enemies upward using tornadoes, inflicting damage as they rise.
Personally, I recommend the Shark ability from the God of the Waves for its impressive area damage. Although the Jellyfish option has its merits, the healing it provides may be less impactful given the presence of effective healing crew members.
How to Acquire the Dark God’s Violin

In Chapter 2, you will encounter one of Jason’s old acquaintances, only to discover that the Devil Fleet has already taken his life, leaving him in his daughter’s arms.
Majima embarks on a quest for vengeance located near the eastern shores of Madlantis, where you can obtain the Dark God’s Violin, your first Dark Instrument, by defeating the boss ship of the Devil Fleet.
After acquiring the violin, head to Rokka Island, where you will engage in a crew brawl with another segment of the Devil Fleet and meet their captains.
This storyline arc focuses on avenging Misaki’s father, reclaiming the Pharaoh’s Stone, and uncovering all Dark God Instruments, which is the central emphasis of our discussion.
How to Obtain the Dark God’s Ocarina

To reach Atali Island and secure your second Dark Instrument, you must collect 70 Devil Fleet flags. These flags are earned by defeating various crews of the Devil Fleet across the ocean, whether on islands or aboard marked ships.

As you navigate this area, complete the marked battles, and you will find the Dark God’s Ocarina hidden in a treasure chest following your final encounter.
However, prepare for a showdown as you will soon face Captain Yakuza and his crew to clear them from your path.
How to Retrieve the Dark God’s Guitar

The third Dark Instrument is found on Flame Heaven, requiring you to have reached a three-star Pirate rank and collected 130 Devil Fleet flags for entry.
If you’ve followed side quests diligently, you should meet the flag requirements as you advance through the game. Otherwise, it may be necessary to traverse the high seas to gather more flags.
Once you’ve claimed the treasure from each sub-island, prepare for a ship battle against a First Mate before venturing to the final island.

Upon defeating the boss ship and plundering Flame Island, you will acquire the Dark God’s Guitar. Equip it for use in your subsequent battles, particularly against Captain Ronin and his crew, as the summoned chimpanzee can deal substantial damage!
How to Access the Dark God’s Saxophone

Achieving a four-star Pirate rank and collecting 220 Devil Fleet Flags will grant you access to Frost Heaven, where you can confront Captain Shinobi for your final Dark Instrument.
The difficulty of the enemies in this area can be challenging, so make sure your crew is well-prepared before diving into battle, especially against the final encounter with Zeus.
Clear all the Treasure Islands in Frost Heaven.Defeat Captain Shinobi’s First Fleet in a naval battle to continue onto Frost Island.

As you navigate Frost Island, be prepared for a pivotal battle against Shinobi. After this confrontation, expect a cutscene where Zeus appears and kidnaps Misaki, but you will receive your final Dark Instrument before exiting the island.
Strategies to Overcome Zeus

The ultimate showdown against Zeus necessitates gathering 330 Devil Fleet Flags and achieving a five-star Pirate rank to access Final Heaven. This battle will undoubtedly be your most challenging yet, so ensuring your crew is strong and that your Goromaru is fully upgraded and outfitted with powerful weapons is essential.
Keep in mind that Misaki will not be on your crew following her abduction, requiring you to find a suitable replacement for your lineup on the Goromaru.
The path to Final Heaven leads you straight to confront Zeus’s First Fleet, followed by a crucial one-on-one battle against him.If possible, equip energy cannons; their damage output is invaluable.
I personally selected Saejima, Kaito, Higashi, and Jason for my offshore combat crew. Carefully engage Zeus and his forces, utilizing your Madness Gauge to summon a Dark Instrument for additional support in this intense finale.

Upon your victory over Zeus, you will complete the Devil Fleet storyline and earn the “Friends We Made Along the Way”treasure, valued at 800, 000 reputation points. This treasure is considered the most prized possession within the world of Pirate Yakuza.
