Among these materials, the Novacrystal stands out as one of the rarest finds, obtainable from these mining sites or through specific monster hunts.
How to Acquire Novacrystals from Gypceros
The elusive Gypceros, a bird wyvern often spotted in the Windward Plains and Iceshard Cliffs, is the sole monster capable of yielding Novacrystals. Prior to embarking on a hunt for Gypceros, players must reach high rank status—specifically HR 8—as Novacrystals and Gypceros themselves are not accessible at lower ranks.
Upon successfully hunting a Gypceros, players have a 30 percent chance of obtaining a Novacristal by breaking its head. Additionally, players can achieve a 12 percent probability of receiving the crystal through other materials dropped from damaged body parts.
When searching for Novacrystals via mining, players need to locate a mining outcrop and interact with it to extract resources. These outcrops are often found close together, making certain locations more efficient for mining rare materials. After mining, players can gather up to three random materials from a shared loot pool.
Additionally, as you explore alongside your Palico and Alma, they may discover extra materials that will automatically fill your item box. Once a mining outcrop is fully harvested, it enters a 15-minute real-time cooldown, after which it can be harvested for more materials.
Optimal Locations for Mining Novacrystals
While certain rare minerals are concentrated in specific areas, Novacrystals can be discovered in mining outcrops across all regions. These locations include:

- Scarlet Forest
- Oilwell Basin

The game features expansive maps, some with multiple levels. Below is a list of zones rich in mining outcrops, enhancing your chances of finding the coveted Novacristal along with corresponding images:
- Windward Plains Zone 7 and 9: Right next to the base camp, two outcrops are situated, with additional ones nearby in zone 9.
- Scarlet Forest Zone 8: Known for the highest concentration of outcrops, zone 8 boasts five mining spots situated at its upper section. A Pop-Up Camp can also be strategically placed in the vicinity.
- Oilwell Basin Zone 4 and 6: Each of these zones features two outcrops, with a camp location conveniently positioned in between.
- Iceshard Cliffs Zone 8: This zone presents three outcrops along its perimeter, facilitating an easy circuit for miners.
- Ruins of Wyveria Zone 1: Though less abundant than other regions, one outcrop can be located to the left upon exiting the base camp, with another accessible by moving right from the base camp to an area connecting zone 1 and zone 2.
