In Monster Hunter Wilds, players who attain a high rank will unlock a captivating side quest titled “High-Quality Materials, ”introduced by Gemma, the local Smithy. The mission’s objective is to procure a rare item known as the Chatacabra Hide+.For many players, locating this formidable creature can be somewhat perplexing. This comprehensive guide is designed to clarify these uncertainties, ultimately assisting hunters in their quest to secure a Chatacabra Hide+.
The Chatacabra Hide+ is specifically acquired from the High Rank Chatacabra. Fortunately, those who have already embarked on the “High-Quality Materials”mission need not worry about encountering Low Rank versions of the monster, as only High Rank Chatacabras will appear in the wild at this stage. The sole opportunity to battle Low Rank Chatacabras involves initiating a Low Rank Optional Quest set in the Plains—a route that is not advisable for those pursuing the Hide+.
Locating the High Rank Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds
Start Your Search in Windward Plains

To begin the hunt for a High Rank Chatacabra, players should fast travel to any of the camps located in the Windward Plains, the initial ecosystem of Monster Hunter Wilds. Upon arrival, the local map should be accessed, and players can press the “Environment Overview” button displayed on the screen’s bottom.

Next, navigate to the “Current” tab within the Environment Overview menu. This section provides a list of large monsters currently roaming the Plains. Players may spot a 4-star Chatacabra on this list. By selecting it, its position will be marked on the map. Following this, players can use the “Set Waypoint” option to mark the Chatacabra’s location, enabling them to travel directly to the creature using the Seikret’s auto-move feature.
If players feel unprepared for the encounter, they have the option to create an Investigation. This allows them to pinpoint the Chatacabra’s location later. To do so, navigate back to the Environment Overview, select the Chatacabra, then choose “Create Quest”followed by “Save as Investigation.”Afterwards, players can consult with Alma to post the Investigation when they’re ready to engage the monster.
Waiting for the Chatacabra
If the Chatacabra is absent from the “Current”tab, it is not available at that moment. Players should switch to the “Forecast” tab in the Environment Overview. This tab features a chart indicating when large monsters, including the Chatacabra, are expected to spawn. Here’s how to effectively use this chart:

- Scroll the chart until finding the Chatacabra entry.
- Observe the vertical lines, which signify increments of 10 minutes as noted at the top of the chart.
- Check where the left edge of the bar aligns with these lines to determine the time until the Chatacabra spawns.
During this waiting period, players can opt to simply wait or use the rest feature accessible via the Hunter’s tent and navigating to the BBQ Menu. While resting incurs a cost, if the Chatacabra’s spawn is imminent, it may be more practical to wait. After the elapsed time, the Chatacabra will appear in the “Current”tab, and players can then easily set a waypoint to track it down.
Acquiring the Chatacabra Hide+ in Monster Hunter Wilds

Upon locating a High Rank Chatacabra, players should wield their preferred weapon and engage in battle. There’s a high likelihood of securing at least one Chatacabra Hide+ from this encounter. The item drops 50% of the time when the Chatacabra is wounded and can also be obtained 30% of the time during the carving process after the monster has been defeated. Additionally, players can gain a Chatacabra Hide+ as a Target Reward with a 27% drop chance, further increasing the odds of acquiring this valuable material on the first hunt.
