UPDATE: We have embedded an interactive map into this Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom guide, to help you with tracking down all of the Soldier’s Armor pieces.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom offers a vast selection of armor sets, each tailored to enhance Link’s abilities throughout Hyrule, the sky islands, and the mysterious Depths. Among these, the Soldier’s Armor set stands out as a versatile choice, especially for players navigating various challenges – except during thunderstorms.
While the Soldier’s Armor may not boast unique aesthetics, its impressive defense can shield Link from significant damage, especially as it is further enhanced through upgrades. This quality makes it a reliable option for adventurers traversing Hyrule from the start. In this guide, we detail how to obtain the Soldier’s Armor set in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Locating the Soldier’s Armor Set in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Soldier’s Armor set consists of three key components: the Soldier’s Helm, Soldier’s Armor, and Soldier’s Greaves. Players can find all three pieces concealed within a hidden passage beneath Hyrule Castle.
Despite its simple appearance, the Soldier’s Armor delivers solid protective benefits. Additionally, it’s relatively easy to acquire early in the game, making it an ideal selection for beginners on their quest through Hyrule.
When taken to a Great Fairy Fountain for upgrades, the armor’s defensive capabilities enhance over time, but it does not grant any special bonuses. With enough upgrades, players will find that this armor remains useful into the later stages of the game.
Before embarking on the quest to gather the Soldier’s Armor, ensure you have completed the quest titled ‘To the Kingdom of Hyrule’ and stock up on hammer-type weapons. After preparing, head to Lookout Landing.
For an efficient overview of where to locate each piece of the Soldier’s Armor set, consult the following interactive map:
Acquiring the Soldier’s Armor Chest Piece
From Lookout Landing, proceed northward toward Hyrule Castle. You will encounter a large gate at the entrance which can be opened using the Ultrahand ability, or alternatively, you can navigate around to the left side.

Continue moving north until you spot a narrow passage on your right, marked by a small torch at the entrance.

Enter the passage and use Ultrahand to lift the two gates blocking your way. Ascend the stairs and take a left, then another left.
At the bottom of the next flight of stairs, turn left again past some wooden crates. You will discover a grate on the floor; use Ultrahand to lift it and jump inside.

You will now be in the Royal Hidden Passage. Keep moving forward until you reach a stairwell populated with Fire Chu Chus. Make short work of them, then continue down the stairs.

At the bottom, you’ll find a tombstone next to a blocked passage; grab a hammer to clear this obstruction. You could also use Bomb Fruit or Yunobo for the task.

Once through, continue onward until you find some Luminous Stone that can be broken. Jump down into the lower area, where a Shock Like lurks – you can choose to ignore it.
From here, two paths are available, but head south through the passage blocked by rocks. Use your hammer once more to uncover two additional openings.

The right passage will lead to a room filled with Bomb Fruit worth collecting if you need them. However, your focus is on the left passage that leads to the Soldier’s Armor.
Upon entering the next room, you will encounter brown and black rocks. Destroy the brown rocks and continue deeper into the tunnel.

Press into a chamber where two Stalkoblin await. Engaging them is optional; you might want to avoid the confrontation for now to conserve health.
In the back-right corner of the room, you’ll find a rock covering another tunnel. Use Ultrahand to move the rock and reveal the way forward.

Traverse to the end of this tunnel and use Ascend to emerge where a Stalkoblin awaits you alongside the chest containing the Soldier’s Armor chest piece!
Acquiring the Soldier’s Helm
Now that you’ve secured the Soldier’s Armor chest, retrace your steps back to the location of the brown rocks. From there, descend back into the underground tunnel and use Ascend again, ensuring you do not pop up all the way back at Hyrule Castle.
Proceed to the breakable black rocks that you encountered earlier.

Clear the rocks using your hammer, Bomb Fruit, or Yunobo before moving through. You will find yourself in a room filled with Luminous Stone, with another passage blocked by black rocks. The objective here is to bypass the rocks yet again!
In the next chamber, navigate past an Ice Like on your left. Eliminate it carefully to avoid freezing, and on the left side of the chamber, you will find your next chest housing the Soldier’s Helm.
Acquiring the Soldier’s Greaves
After securing the Soldier’s Helm, exit the small room and return to the water. Look toward the distance for a nearby passage and swim in that direction.

As you navigate forward, another set of black rocks will obstruct your path. Feel free to ignore them or destroy them if you wish to gather the ores behind them. Move upward until you encounter yet another set of rocks needing removal.
After clearing those, you’re bound to meet more enemies—Stalkoblin and Stalmoblin await you. Take them down to progress toward yet another rock blockade.
Break through to a room cluttered with rocks. Don’t worry about the leftmost pile; instead, focus on the large central pile and destroy it using your bombs and hammers.

Proceed into the next room, where a Like Like will greet you on the left. Dispatch it as you did with the Ice Like, and then access the chest beside it, which contains the Soldier’s Greaves.
To fully equip Link, consider expanding your inventory with a variety of armor sets to complement different challenges. The Rubber Armor shields against thunderstorms, the Depths Armor protects from Gloom, and the Radiant Armor offers stylish advantages in battles against Stal enemies.
