Guide to Acquiring the Gold Spikeplate in Black Myth: Wukong
The Gold Spikeplate is a rare Epic Curio featured in Black Myth Wukong. This Curio can surprisingly be acquired fairly early in the game, providing the Destined One with a substantial boost in Defense. However, similar to most powerful Curios within the game, the Gold Spikeplate is unlocked through an optional enemy encounter that players can easily miss.
Unlike other potent Curios such as the Beast Buddha, Tiger Tendon Belt, and Thunderflame Seal, the Gold Spikeplate cannot be farmed from random enemy drops. Instead, it is a guaranteed drop from a specific enemy type found in Chapter 3 of Black Myth Wukong – The New World.
How to Find the Gold Spikeplate in Black Myth Wukong
The Gold Spikeplate is obtained by defeating the elite giant enemies known as the Dark-faced Overlord, which are located near the New Thunderclap Temple in Chapter 3 (The New West). Players will encounter their first giant on the journey toward the Captain Kalpa-Wave boss fight, with two additional giants found near the Mahavira Hall Keeper’s Shrine.
However, none of these giants drop the Gold Spikeplate. This item is instead dropped by a hidden giant located to the west of the Longevity Road Keeper’s Shrine, in the Valley of Ecstasy. Finding this giant is straightforward; just follow the westbound path from the Shrine.
Upon defeating the secret Dark-faced Overlord, players will receive the Gold Spikeplate Curio. Note that only one Gold Spikeplate can be acquired per playthrough. If you’re struggling against the Dark-faced Overlord enemies, consider these helpful tips:
- Invest in Smash Stance and Focus build-up talents.
- Utilize Immobilize and Cloud Step to create attack openings and reposition effectively.
- After inflicting significant damage or staggering the Overlord, it will lower its head temporarily. Use this opportunity to deal substantial damage, preferably through charged heavy attacks.
- Avoid ground smash attacks and foot stomps, as these can stagger you and inflict heavy damage.
The Gold Spikeplate offers two main perks, unlike most Curios in Black Myth Wukong that typically provide a single benefit. Firstly, this Curio moderately increases Defense, which stacks with other Defense-enhancing Curios like the Agate Jar. Secondly, with the Gold Spikeplate equipped, enemies that strike you will also take a small amount of damage.
