For gamers using the PlayStation 5, adjusting your online status is a simple yet essential task. This status not only lets friends know if you’re available for gaming or chatting but also reflects your overall activity. By default, when you turn on your console and connect it to the internet, your status shows as online. However, if you’re in the mood for some solitude, there are several options at your disposal.
PS5 users can choose from three distinct online statuses: Online, Busy, and Appear Offline. The first two signify your availability—being online and active or being online but seeking privacy. Opting for Appear Offline effectively conceals your status, making it seem like your console isn’t on at all. Thankfully, switching between these statuses can be done effortlessly from the PS5 home menu.
How to Change Your Status on PSN
Access the Option Through Your Profile Settings
To change your online status, start from the PS5 home screen. Move to the top bar of icons and locate your avatar. Click on your avatar to access your profile settings, then select “Online Status”from the dropdown. It’s here that you can pick between Online, Busy, or Appear Offline. Alternatively, you can access your profile settings by pressing the PS button for the Control Center or by hitting the Options button on the user selection screen if your PS5 has multiple accounts.
Players using a PlayStation 4 can also adjust their online status, although the Busy option is not available on that system.
Moreover, you can update your online status through the official PlayStation App available on both iOS and Android platforms. After installing and signing into your account, tap your profile icon located on the app’s Play tab. From there, select “Online Status,”choose your preferred option, and finalize by tapping “Done.”Remember, any changes made to your status on either the console or the app will reflect across all PS5 and PS4 consoles linked to your account.
How to Appear Offline on PS5
You May Still Appear Online In-Game
To set your profile to Appear Offline, simply navigate to your online status settings and select this option. This will make your account appear as though you’re completely signed out from your console, allowing you to enjoy your favorite games without any oversight from others.
However, there are some considerations: even when you select the “Appear Offline”setting, you might still receive invitations to voice chats and online games if friends can identify you’re online. Additionally, certain games may still display you as online, regardless of your PSN status. Lastly, keep in mind that your current status will persist when you log in next time. If you happen to feel overlooked after starting your PS5, double-check your profile settings to ensure you’re appearing online.
