Update on Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn Expansion

Crate Entertainment has been hard at work on the much-anticipated expansion, Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn, for a couple of years now. Initially, the studio had set an ambitious goal for a 2024 release; however, that timeline has witnessed some significant delays.

Current Release Timeline

Recent updates from the development team suggest that fans might see a release as early as late 2024, but there are possibilities for further delays. Official sources indicate that the expansion could potentially push into Spring or even early Summer of 2026. Although the wait will be lengthy, Crate emphasizes that this expansion will surpass all previous ones in terms of size and content.

Expansion Size and New Features

In terms of scale, Fangs of Asterkarn is projected to cover approximately 3.55 square kilometers, making it around 110% larger than the previous expansion, Ashes of Malmouth. The new capital, Kurnhold, will serve as the central quest hub, boasting four distinct zones compared to the one and a half zones of the Covenant of the Three from Forgotten Gods.

Quests and Bosses Galore

Currently, players can expect a total of 47 quests (both main and side), with that number likely to increase as more content is developed. The landscape of Asterkarn will be populated with 54 new bosses, which include eight fresh Nemesis encounters. These bosses will showcase the most advanced skill mechanics yet, stretching the capabilities of the engine to new heights. The notable superboss, The Dread, has already been unveiled, but fans should stay tuned for additional surprises.

Loot, Unique Items, and Future Content

Upon defeating these formidable foes, players will be able to loot over 380 unique items and 120 Monster Infrequents. This count does not account for the Awakened Epic items or the common drops in the Ascendant mode, which introduce 33 unique tertiary affixes into the game. Moreover, players can look forward to two roguelike dungeons scheduled for release post-launch, which will further enhance gameplay with new bosses and exclusive loot drops.

Console Availability

The latest announcements indicate that Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn will also be launched on the Xbox One alongside the PC version. This is a continuation of Crate Entertainment’s efforts, having previously released the Grim Dawn Definitive Edition for Xbox One in December 2021, which included both Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods.
