The Bachelor season 29 has seen its leading man, Grant Ellis, make some questionable decisions that are raising eyebrows regarding his emotional intelligence and suitability for finding a future partner. Grant, a 31-year-old day trader from Newark, New Jersey, currently residing in Houston, Texas, kicked off his Bachelor journey with 25 contestants. After the premiere, he pared that number down to 18, awarding Alexe Godin the first impression rose, which also secured her the first one-on-one date due to an intriguing twist this season.
In episode 2, audiences witnessed two group dates featuring basketball and R&B singing contests. The basketball date included ten women, among them Alli Jo Hinkes, Allyshia Gupta, Beverly Ortega, Chloie Costello, Julian Pasquarosa, Natalie Phillips, Parisa Shifteh, Sarafiena Watkins, Vicky Nyamuswa, and Zoe McGrady. The R&B date showcased performances from Bailey Brown, Carolina Sofia, Dina Lupancu, Ella Del Rosario, Litia Garr, Rebekah Garrett, and Rose Sombke. While Grant managed to forge some strong connections during these activities, his choices could jeopardize his budding relationships with several contestants.

Grant Upset the Other Women

The first group date featured a frenetic basketball match, which began with skill drills alongside a group of children. During the slam dunk contest, Zoe unexpectedly chose to forfeit her opportunity to sneak away with Grant to the rooftop instead. Their lengthy absence led host Jesse Palmer to announce the conclusion of the contest, provoking frustration and outrage among the remaining contestants.
As the night progressed into the cocktail party, Zoe interrupted other women to monopolize Grant’s attention, further igniting tension among the participants. The tension wasn’t entirely misplaced; after all, Grant allowed Zoe to commandeer his time during crucial moments, reflecting a certain lack of awareness regarding the feelings of the other women involved. His behavior during these moments marked a stark contrast to his previously considerate demeanor during Jenn Tran’s Bachelorette season, raising concerns about his emotional maturity as the lead.

Grant Doesn’t Think About the Consequences of His Actions

Following the basketball game, Grant honored Chloie with the title of MVP, bestowing his letterman jacket upon her. This gesture culminated in a kiss, witnessed by other contestants, generating evident jealousy among the women. Later, during the R&B date, Carolina made her move, planting a kiss on Grant during her performance. However, in a turn of events, they shared an extended make-out session in full view of the group, heightened by a dance serenaded by the artist Mario.
Grant’s lack of awareness about his actions was glaring, as many contestants expressed irritation and hurt in their confessionals, with some tearing up over the situation. Upon arriving at the cocktail party, he sensed a chill in the atmosphere, noted by the subdued reactions of the women as they greeted him. Seeking clarity, he approached Rebekah to gauge if he had erred in his behavior. Rebekah candidly pointed out that while she understood he could not always choose everyone, his actions had a trickle-down effect that was tough on the other women.
Grant Unknowingly Insulted Litia Garr on Premiere Night
Litia Explained Why She Was Upset to Grant

On premiere night, Grant made a significant misstep when he remarked to Litia that he could tell she seldom faced rejection due to her beauty. This comment struck a nerve, as Litia revealed in her confessional that she frequently encounters rejection in relationships. Grant quickly apologized after realizing the impact of his words, which had acted as a trigger for Litia.
As their conversation unfolded, Litia shared personal experiences about her previous relationships that fostered a sense of understanding and connection between them, leading to a kiss. Sadly, this was overshadowed by his earlier comment, showcasing a tendency that might become problematic in future interactions.
Grant’s Questionable Decisions Might Indicate a Disastrous Ending
Grant Is Indecisive in the Previews
A sneak peek from a preview released on the Bachelor Nation on ABC YouTube channel revealed Grant appearing increasingly indecisive in his final moments with his last two contestants. Jesse confronted him on whether he had clarity on his decision, to which Grant admitted his uncertainty, amplifying concerns about his capability as the lead.
Given his errors during the second episode, it’s easy to foresee potential missteps multiplying, resulting in further complications in his quest for love. Unfortunately, Grant may have already alienated several women, making it seem unlikely that he will find true love. While it would be disappointing for his season to culminate in heartbreak, the evidence suggests that he lacks the necessary emotional intelligence. Although he appeared more at ease with Alexe during their one-on-one date, he will need to exhibit more sensitivity during group interactions. For Grant to secure a fulfilling conclusion to his Bachelor journey, he must significantly improve his approach.
