Granger Taylor’s Mysterious Case: Insights from Out There: Crimes of the Paranormal

Out There: Crimes of the Paranormal premiered on Hulu, immersing audiences in a realm where true crime intertwines with the supernatural, exemplified by the enigmatic story of Granger Taylor. This intriguing series began streaming in September 2024, with a memorable episode dedicated to the life and disappearance of Granger Taylor, a mechanical prodigy captivated by UFOs and space exploration who mysteriously vanished in 1980.

Granger Taylor, an innovative inventor hailing from Duncan, British Columbia, was renowned for his remarkable mechanical abilities and his profound curiosity about the cosmos. On the fateful night of November 29, 1980, he penned a perplexing note for his parents, stating he was embarking on a 42-month journey aboard an alien spaceship, a quest inspired by recurring dreams he experienced.

This note served as the last communication from Taylor, who was never seen again. An extensive search following his disappearance yielded scant clues. Nearly six years later, in March 1986, forestry workers discovered a wrecked vehicle near Mount Prevost, not far from the Taylor family residence.

The remnants of the vehicle were identified as Taylor’s 1972 light blue Datsun pickup, which he was believed to have driven on the night of his disappearance. Near the wreckage, a small collection of bone fragments and a piece of fabric from a shirt that belonged to Taylor were recovered.

Despite these grim discoveries, definitive evidence regarding Taylor’s fate has remained elusive. The site contained scattered remains and vehicle parts, but no conclusive proof was found to determine if Taylor had died there or if his disappearance was the result of an entirely different circumstance.

The official investigation conducted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and further analyses by various experts have raised more questions than they resolved, keeping the mystery of Granger Taylor’s disappearance alive.

Granger Taylor was a self-taught mechanical whiz from Duncan, British Columbia, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances on November 29, 1980. He left behind a perplexing note asserting that he was undertaking an interstellar journey with extraterrestrials.

Despite having only an eighth-grade education, Taylor was known for his exceptional mechanical skills, which he honed while restoring antique machinery and vehicles throughout his life. His notable projects included a one-cylinder car that he built at the age of 14 and a steam locomotive he salvaged and restored, which is now showcased at the BC Forest Discovery Centre.

His intense passion for space and extraterrestrial life was evident in the “spaceship”he crafted from scrap metal in his backyard. Although the structure was never intended to fly, it provided him a personal sanctuary where he would spend countless hours.

Friends and family often heard Taylor share his dreams and supposed messages from extraterrestrials, which he claimed were inviting him to explore the vast universe.

The farewell note he left for his parents was both a goodbye and an explanation, declaring that his recurring dreams had culminated in a real invitation from aliens to join them on a 42-month journey through space. He reassured them of his return, bequeathing all his possessions to them and altering terms in his will, replacing “deceased”with “departed.”

On the night of his disappearance, Taylor is believed to have taken his 1972 light blue Datsun pickup, which was later found wrecked near Mount Prevost in 1986. The discovery site contained some of Taylor’s personal belongings and fragments of human bone, but these findings did not provide concrete evidence about his fate.

The wreckage location, along with the found remnants, suggested a violent outcome, yet the true circumstances surrounding it remain unclear.

Over the years, numerous theories have emerged concerning Taylor’s possible fate. Some theorize that he might have orchestrated his own disappearance, while others propose more fantastical scenarios, such as alien abduction. Skeptics highlight his reported use of psychedelic substances, raising questions about his mental well-being at the time of his disappearance.

The theory of suicide has also been explored in the series, given the secluded nature of the location and the way his truck and possessions were found.

Despite extensive searches and investigations by the RCMP, along with renewed interest through various documentaries and articles, the true story behind Granger Taylor’s fate remains unanswered.
