The father of Emma Navarro, Ben, has received high praise from WTA fans for his role as a businessman who has successfully organized the Credit One Charleston Open for the past six years.
The Charleston Open, a WTA 500 tournament played on green clay, began on March 30. It is widely regarded as the largest women’s-only tennis tournament in North America since Credit One’s CEO, Navarro, acquired the licenses for both the 500-level competition and the stadium in late 2018.
In that regard, the tennis community on X (previously known as Twitter) praised Emma Navarro’s father for his impressive organizational abilities and effective promotion of the tournament to fans. The fans turned out in large numbers to support local favorite Amanda Anisimova during her first-round win over Alize Cornet on Monday (April 1).
An individual supporter commended the American entrepreneur for guaranteeing a high level of excitement for a game at such an early stage of the competition.
“I got to hand it to Mr. Navarro, he’s done a great job at upgrading the stadium and some of the outside courts. Crowds are also great for a R1 match. Charleston you’ll always be famous!”they wrote.
Meanwhile, a different fan asserted that Ben Navarro’s management of the Charleston Open far surpassed that of James Blake, who faced criticism for inadequate arrangements during the recent Miami Open.
“We need to talk about the brilliant crowds in Charleston even on a Monday morning… that’s why it’s the best 500 and also ended Miami with ease,”they wrote.
The credibility of the above claims was supported by a fan who stated that the Charleston Open should receive more recognition, as it is one of the lead-up tournaments to the French Open.
“Miami Open < Charleston Open and it is not even close. Charleston leads into a major and has a uniqueness to it,”they wrote.

Emma Navarro to Face Katie Volynets in First Match of Charleston Open
Meanwhile, Ben Navarro’s daughter Emma has become well-known on the WTA Tour. Despite mostly competing in 125-level and ITF events last year, the 20-year-old achieved success on the big stage earlier this year.
After losing to eventual champion Coco Gauff in the semifinals of the ASB Classic in January, Navarro went on to claim her first WTA 250 title at the Hobart International. Since then, she has maintained a strong performance at major tournaments, reaching the quarterfinals in Indian Wells and making it to the Round of 16 in Miami.
Emma Navarro, who is currently ranked 20th in the world, is set to compete in the Charleston Open this week. She is seeded 10th and her first match will be against fellow American Katie Volynets on Wednesday (April 3). Navarro will be determined to improve upon her previous 0-1 record against Volynets, as she was defeated by her at a W60 event in Macon, Georgia two years ago.
