Browser Market Update: Trends and Insights for August 2025
As we step into a new month, Statcounter has released its latest insights into global internet usage trends. Following our previous discussion about the swift migration of users from Windows 10 to Windows 11, we now shift our focus to the browser market, where notable shifts are occurring, albeit more subtly.
Chrome’s Continued Dominance
In July 2025, Google Chrome solidified its position as the leading web browser, boosting its market share to an impressive 69.98%—a rise of 3.09 percentage points from the previous month. This marks a significant step towards its previous record highs, showcasing users’ continued preference for Chrome’s robust features and user experience.
Microsoft Edge: Struggles and Innovations
In the second position, Microsoft Edge has seen a decline in market share, falling to 11.8% from 13.06%. This widening gap between Chrome and Edge reflects the challenges Microsoft faces in retaining its user base. To counteract this trend, Microsoft is rolling out innovative features such as the new Copilot Mode, which offers smart page summarization and multi-tab context features. While this initiative aims to enhance user experience, it will be important to observe how users respond to Microsoft’s AI integration during their browsing sessions.
Competitive Landscape of Other Browsers
Other browsers are also feeling the pressure of Chrome’s dominance. Apple’s Safari holds the third position, with its market share decreasing to 6.51%, representing a 1.83 percentage point drop. Firefox follows closely with a share of 5.32% (down by 0.52 percentage points), while Opera languishes in fourth with a mere 2.2% (down by 0.43 percentage points).
Mobile Browser Market Trends
The mobile browsing landscape mirrors the desktop trends, though Microsoft Edge remains largely absent. Currently, Google Chrome leads the mobile browser market with a share of 67.32%, followed by Apple’s Safari at 22.42% and Samsung Internet in third place with 3.5%.
