Google’s AI Mode Expands Language Support
Last month, Google introduced its AI Mode, providing users from over 180 countries the chance to experience its generative AI capabilities. Initially, this feature was limited to English-speaking users; however, recent updates have expanded its reach by incorporating support for five additional languages.
New Language Availability
According to a recent announcement from Google, AI Mode in Google Search is now accessible in Hindi, Japanese, Indonesian, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese. This update leverages the advanced features of the Gemini 2.5 model, enhancing the AI’s ability to grasp the local nuances and cultural contexts of these languages.
Impact of the Language Expansion
The inclusion of Hindi is particularly noteworthy, as it boasts over 609 million speakers, placing it third in the global ranking of most spoken languages, following English and Mandarin Chinese, according to the latest Ethnologue data. Meanwhile, Indonesian and Japanese, with 252.4 million and 125.6 million speakers respectively, are also significant additions to Google’s offerings.
Features of AI Mode
AI Mode represents an evolution from the earlier AI Overviews feature, which generated summary responses to user inquiries. It employs a “query fan-out”strategy that performs various related searches across subtopics and data sources, ultimately delivering a thorough and cohesive response.
Recent updates to AI Mode include an enhanced custom version of the Gemini 2.5 model, along with a new Search Live option that facilitates interactive conversations. Additionally, the mode now supports data visualization, such as graphs for financial queries, and even allows users to stream live camera feeds for improved search outcomes.
Personalization and Convenience
The rollout of AI Mode coincided with the launch of the Pixel 10 series last month, unveiling advanced agentic and personalization features. This functionality enables users to find restaurant reservations tailored to their preferences, including party size, timing, location, and cuisine type.
With these developments, Google continues to refine and enhance its AI capabilities, offering a more personalized and intuitive search experience to a broader audience.
