Google Voice Enhances Features with Three-Way Calling and User Interface Update
Google is set to elevate the user experience of its Voice service with notable updates designed to enhance call management and usability. A key highlight of this rollout is the introduction of three-way calling, which allows users to seamlessly integrate a third party into an ongoing conversation.
Introducing Three-Way Calling
The new three-way calling functionality operates by merging two separate calls, providing a streamlined solution in various scenarios. This feature proves especially beneficial in instances such as:
- Engaging a translator during bilingual discussions.
- Involving legal counsel directly in important conversations.
- Facilitating smoother call transfers by introducing a new participant while still connected to the initial caller.
To utilize this feature, users simply click the “Add”button to locate the desired contact, followed by selecting “Merge”to connect all parties in the call.
Revamped In-Call User Interface
In addition to three-way calling, Google is also unveiling a refreshed in-call user interface. This update aims to standardize the look and feel across devices, making the layout more user-friendly and familiar to those accustomed to Google Meet. The redesigned interface enhances accessibility by repositioning key call controls for improved navigation. As explained by Google:
Starting from the top, you’ll find notifications, such as a call participant on hold. Moving down to call controls, your primary actions like the keypad and mute button are prominently highlighted, while secondary actions like transfer, hold, and merge are easily accessible.
Availability and Rollout
It’s important to note that the three-way calling feature is primarily designed for Google Workspace customers with a subscription plan, including Voice Starter, Voice Standard, or Voice Premier, as well as those on SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) Link Standard and SIP Link Premier plans. Conversely, all Google Voice users will benefit from the updated user interface. The rollout for both of these enhancements commenced on May 1, 2025, and Google anticipates it may take up to 15 days for full deployment.
Additional Google Workspace Improvements
In related updates within Google Workspace, Google Slides has introduced a variety of new high-quality templates to help users create visually appealing presentations without needing any design expertise. Additionally, NotebookLM has expanded its Audio Overviews functionality, now supporting over 50 languages for summarizing documents. Furthermore, the new AI-enhanced video creation tool, Vids, is being made available to more customer tiers, including Business Starter, Enterprise Starter, and Nonprofit users.
