Google Vids Expands Video Formatting Options for Users

Google has recently enhanced its AI-driven video editing application, Google Vids, with new features aimed at delivering greater versatility for its users. This update will be accessible to all Google Workspace customers, as well as personal Google account holders.

New Video Formats Available

Users can now produce and modify videos in two trendy formats: vertical (9:16 aspect ratio) and square (1:1 aspect ratio). These dimensions are designed to cater to the growing popularity of social media platforms that favor such formats. Previously, Google Vids primarily supported the conventional widescreen format (16:9).

How to Access New Formats

To utilize the newly available video formats, simply click on the “Video size” button located in the top menu bar of the Google Vids interface. Alternatively, you can navigate to File > Video size to select your desired settings.

According to a blog post from Google, the addition of these formats will empower creators by providing more options for content distribution across various platforms like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and TikTok. Moreover, new templates specifically designed for vertical and square formats are also being introduced to aid users in content creation.

A Brief Overview of Google Vids

Launched in April 2024, Google Vids operates as an AI-enhanced production tool tailored for generating training videos, presentations, and more. Initially available to a select group of users, this application later expanded its accessibility to Google Workspace clients, incorporating support for Google’s Veo 2 and Veo 3 models. These advancements enable the generation of custom video clips, audio-integrated video content, and video compilations from images.

Background Replacement and Editing Features

Additionally, Google Vids offers features such as the ability to replace backgrounds using text prompts and the option to swiftly edit videos that are uploaded to Google Drive. It’s important to note that the rollout of the new video formats commenced recently and will continue to be implemented over the next few weeks. Google has specified that there is no admin control or user setting required to enable or disable these formats for Google Workspace users.
