Google Podcasts is Dead as Google Buries Another Body in its Ever Growing Graveyard

Despite our hopes that Google’s graveyard was finally coming to a halt, it seems that this is not the case. In fact, the company has recently made the decision to shut down their application, Google Podcasts, starting today. This news comes as a surprise, as just when we thought the company was slowing down on shutting down its services, they have now taken this step.

Google Podcasts to be Discontinued as Google Announces End of Service

Fortunately, your data will remain accessible until July. Those who use Google Podcasts can save their data until the designated cut off date in July. This means that if you have a list of podcasts you wish to export, you can do so and transfer it to other supported services.

It shouldn’t be unexpected, to be frank. In September, Google made an announcement that they would be discontinuing Google Podcasts. Since then, many individuals have been able to transfer their data to alternative services. Today, it seems that this service will finally come to an end.

Despite all of that, it’s funny to note that this isn’t Google’s initial foray into creating apps or services for podcasts. In the past, they had Google Listen, followed by Google Play Music Podcasts, and then Google Podcasts (twice). The question remains whether YouTube Podcasts will become their fourth attempt or not.

Sometimes, I even lose track of the number of apps and services that Google has discontinued. It’s worth mentioning that there is an entire website, here, dedicated to keeping track of Google’s discontinued products and services. Currently, there are 294 items listed on the Google Graveyard, with the most recent addition being Google Podcasts. It’s uncertain which service will be the next to join the list of casualties in Google’s long history of discontinuing products.

Have you used Google Podcasts before or have you never considered trying out the service? Share your thoughts on its unexpected shutdown in the comments section below.
