Google Photos Web Feature: Automatic Backup of Computer Folders

Transferring your photos and videos from your computer to the online platform of Google Photos has become much simpler, thanks to the recent introduction of automatic folder backup support. In the past, users had to manually select and upload their media files to the web version of Google Photos.

Fortunately, this process is evolving. A recent report indicates that the new feature implemented in Google Photos on the web automates this task. Users can now navigate to the photos.google.com site and choose the “Back up folders”option located within the Upload menu to activate automatic folder backups.

Once this option is selected, Google Photos will prompt users to designate a specific folder while also requesting permission to access the files inside. After setup is complete, the web version of Google Photos will actively monitor the designated folder for any new files to upload automatically. This feature resembles the functionality found in the Google Drive for Desktop application available for both Mac and Windows systems.

The folder backup interface also shows the total number of files and the size of uploads in progress, allowing users to track their data usage effectively. If users wish to remove a folder, they can easily do so by clicking the three-dot menu icon adjacent to the folder name. Additionally, adding more folders is straightforward via the “Add folder”option.

However, there is a limitation with this new Google Photos automatic backup feature. Unlike the Google Drive desktop application, which continuously backs up files in the background, users must periodically access the web version of Google Photos to perform the folder backups. Nonetheless, this is still a significant improvement over the previously manual process of uploading photos and videos from your PC.

On the Android front, Google is reportedly developing an updated video player that enhances the user experience with a new interface design and introduces fresh controls such as a Loop button. Additionally, the pause button is now conveniently located below the video. This player also offers haptic feedback during video scrubbing with the newly designed dotted seek bar.
