Google Phone App Potentially Adding Dedicated Accept and Decline Call Buttons

The Google Phone app on your Pixel device—and any other device that defaults to this app—may soon unveil a revamped user interface. At present, when you receive a call, the Google Phone app provides a simple option: swiping up on the phone button to answer or swiping down to reject the call.

Additionally, a “Message”button is located above the call button, allowing you to send quick messages to inform the caller that you are currently busy or engaged in another task.

Recent findings from the APK Teardown of the Phone app version 145.0.672690850 indicate that Google is experimenting with a new UI for the incoming call screen. This updated interface replaces the traditional swipe gestures with dedicated buttons for call management. The new call interface closely resembles the call UI found on iPhones and devices from Samsung.

This redesigned UI features a green button for answering calls and a red button for rejecting them. Above these buttons, you will still find the “Message”option. Various Android OEMs have adopted a similar layout, with the accept button positioned on the right and the reject button on the left.

Conversely, the iPhone’s design is reversed, placing the decline button on the left and the accept button on the right. It appears that these changes will roll out through a server-side update, meaning they might not be immediately accessible to a broad range of Google Phone app users. As of now, Google has made no official announcements regarding this update.

The new user interface will not be limited to Google Pixel smartphones; it will also be available on other brands such as Xiaomi and OnePlus.

We invite you to share your thoughts in the comments below: Do you prefer the new dedicated buttons for call management, or do the traditional gesture controls suit you better?
