Months after its initial launch, Google’s NotebookLM tool gained significant attention recently, primarily due to its innovative Audio Overviews capability. By simply uploading materials or sharing links from websites and YouTube, users can leverage Gemini 1.5 Pro’s capabilities. This enables NotebookLM to effectively absorb the information and respond knowledgeably to user inquiries. According to Google, millions are already utilizing NotebookLM for navigating and interacting with intricate data.
Today, Google revealed significant updates to NotebookLM. Firstly, they removed the “Experimental”label, allowing users to engage with the platform without concerns about its potential shutdown. Additionally, enhancements to the Audio Overviews include two exciting new features:
- Conversation Guidance: Users can now specify instructions prior to generating a “Deep Dive”Audio Overview. This allows for a focus on particular topics or an adjustment of expertise levels to match the needs of the audience.
- Background Playback: You can listen to Audio Overviews while still working on NotebookLM. This means querying sources, obtaining citations, and exploring pertinent quotes seamlessly along with the audio.
- Launch Google NotebookLM and set up a new notebook.
- Input the necessary sources.
- In the NotebookLM interface, select “Generate”for a standard Audio Overview or opt for “Customize”to guide the AI hosts with specific instructions.
Furthermore, Google is rolling out a new subscription option named NotebookLM Business, featuring enhanced tools designed specifically for businesses, educational institutions, and other organizations. Google reports that over 80,000 organizations are already utilizing NotebookLM. Organizations interested in this new tier can apply to join the NotebookLM Business pilot program now. Acceptance into this program grants early access to product functionalities, training, and dedicated email support.
More details regarding the wide release and pricing for NotebookLM Business will be announced later this year, addressing the increasing need for AI-driven research and analytical tools across various industries.
